  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

However, there are also some young Christian singles (usually between 13 and 24, however I know some older guys also), who are just dating to get to know the opposite sex a bit better and to help them start defining what it is they REALLY want in a man. Dr Dobson, Cloud and Townsend, all state that this is also a sensible form of dating, as long as the general Christian views are maintained in the relationship (ie, respect, physical restraint, etc etc)...
Hmmmm..... I like to just hang out with girls, but I don't think that I would call that dating. In doing so, I can get a better idea of what I like and don't like in women without 'dating'. I wonder if these guys, like Dobson, Cloud and Townsend would call what I do dating???

Breetai,

Yeah I completely understand that - I guess I look at it like, ok, so I know I'm not dating this guy - but what do those people over there think?

Let's look at what I'm doing

1) Me and this guy, just us, at a movie
2) Me and this guy, laughing, talking, getting along pretty well
3) Me and this guy, sit together, may share popcorn

In their mind, I guess this would equal a date. The amount of times I've been hanging out at a mates cricket or soccer game or met somewhere for dinner and seen occasional acquaintances!!! The first question - so how long have you two been dating? The first answer - oh no he's not my bf/she's not my gf - we're just really good friends.

I know I shouldn't, but I do think of what others think, and if you're in a situation where it could look like a date, then it probably is one - no matter how much we hate the thought!!

I guess that is what Cloud/Dobson would consider defines a 'date' - regardless of any physical interactions!

Sasch
