  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Acts was certainly written later than Luke.

I think internally, given that the author never mentions Paul's final years but ends with Paul's imprisonment in Rome, an early date is possible (mid- 60s). That isn't conclusive, and as such a 70s or 80s dating is certainly possible. I don't know how one could arrive at anything very conclusively, but the general consensus is the last quarter of the 1st century. And earlier date to before Paul's execution is possible based on the internal evidence of the text, but how one feels about that may have largely to do with other factors such as Markan priority and thus when Mark was written, and a big one, where one stands on the Olivet Discourse--specifically for some the Olivet Discourse is evidence of a post 70 date, but that seems to involve certain assumptions.

for acts there are three dates posited ranging 60-150 ce

early = the early 60’s of the first century

intermediate = 80-90 ce

late = 110 - 120 ce

personally i favor the late dating
Then I'd put it into your "intermediate" - mid/late 70s-80s

Markan priority rules out anything earlier than 70. Later than 90 doesn't seem justifiable any more
