  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think when you make a wrong assumption ( Didn't Marx discover religion to be the "opiate" of the masses), then your conclusions will be wrong as well.
On the other hand, are you suggesting that dispensationalists are some sort of drug addicts?..

I don't know about Groucho, Chico, Harpo, Gummo, Zeppo, or even Richard, but Karl and a few others may have thought so.... ;)

Duck Soup:
Groucho : I got a good mind to join a club and beat you over the head with it.

Groucho : Oh, uh, I suppose you would think me a sentimental old fluff, but, uh, would you mind giving me lock of your hair?
Margaret Dumont : A lock of my hair? Wh-why, I had no idea.
Groucho : I'm letting you off easy: I was going to ask for the whole wig.

Oxford published the Scofield Bible because it was a profitable venture. I suspect that the claim that it saved their company is a typical piece of hyperbole.

Darby and Scofield never met. Scofield learned dispensationalism from James Brookes, a Presbyterian minister in St. Louis. Brookes may have met Darby personally (many histories will tell you this) but he may have picked up dispensationalism secondhand.

My husband is currently doing his dissertation on the spread of dispensationalism in North America, and going through manuscript sources that have never been examined by church history types (I get to decipher the handwriting for him!). He says that there were a few people teaching the pretrib rapture in Canada in the 1850's before Darby visited. Some of those people had American contacts. The first American published defense of the pretrib rapture appeared in 1854 (if you know of an earlier one, let me know) - it was called "The Destiny of the Earth" by James Inglis. Inglis and Brookes were in touch by 1863, before Darby and Brookes could have met.

Are you sorry you asked? :)

I think that is my favorite of all their movies! Did you notice the guy who plays Ming the mercilessfrom Flash Gorden (the original series) in it? And in the mirror scene do you know which brothers were in it?

I'm sure with the prominent banking families, industrial magnates, etc. that were on its board, they were not really in need of financial help. Just influence, perhaps? Their wealth is pretty well known.
