  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think it's okay as long as it doesn't get too sexual. When you start bumping and grinding on the floor, it's gone from being a fun art to an erotic demonstration.

I wish folk dancing were more popular in this country, as it's a lot of fun, and doesn't have heavy sexual overtones.

Example of Ukrainian Folk Dancing:

Dance (from French danser, perhaps from Frankish) is an art form that generally refers to movement of the body, usually rhythmic and to music, used as a form of expression, social interaction or presented in a spiritual or performance setting. Dance is also used to describe methods of non-verbal communication between humans or animals (bee dance, patterns of behaviour such as a mating dance), motion in inanimate objects (the leaves danced in the wind), and certain musical forms or genres. In sports, gymnastics, figure skating and synchronized swimming are dance disciplines while martial arts kata are often compared to dances.

Definitions of what constitutes dance are dependent on social, cultural, aesthetic, artistic and moral constraints and range from functional movement (such as folk dance) to virtuoso techniques such as ballet. Dance can be participatory, social or performed for an audience. It can also be ceremonial, competitive or erotic. Dance movements may be without significance in themselves, such as in ballet or European folk dance, or have a gestural vocabulary/symbolic system as in many Asian dances. Dance can embody or express ideas, emotions or tell a story.

Dancing has evolved many styles. Breakdancing and Krumping are related to the hip hop culture. African dance is interpretive. Ballet, Ballroom, Waltz, and Tango are classical styles of dance while Square and the Electric Slide are forms of step dances.

Every dance, no matter what style, has something in common. It not only involves flexibility and body movement, but also physics. If the proper physics is not taken into consideration, injuries can and are likely to occur.

Choreography is the art of creating dances. The person who creates (i.e., choreographs) a dance is known as the choreographer.

I'd say it's OK as long as it's not too sexually suggestive. That being said, it's NOT OK if someone tries to get me to dance...

I'm with you, since I can't dance, I against it. :D

Really, I see no problem as long as it isn't suggestive like stated above.

I was learning the swing dance. I loved it. Would like to be taught. Line dancing is fun also but never learned.

Did you do East Coast or West Coast Swing?

If you like Line Dancing you should try Contra Dancing. It is kind of a mix between line and square.

I wonder what King David looked like when he was dancing for God.

West coast. Is there a difference.. LOL.. I only learned one type of swing but I have forgotten it. I sure enjoyed it so much. I was in a class for about two weeks and got to try it out on the dance floor only once..

I was raised with the idea that dancing of any type was so sinful that it could cost you your salvation if you did it. I'm not joking. I was raised with a lot of beliefs that were very different than most other Christians and now I'm trying to find out if there's any merit to them at all. The no dancing rules from what I've found out seem to come from missionaries that went to Africa. They saw the native people dancing and since they weren't Christians they felt that dancing was a pagan ritual and therefore any decent Christian man or woman should distance themselves as far as possible from it. So far I haven't found anything in the Bible that comes out and says that dancing in itself is sinful.
