Daniel 7:23-24 King James Version (KJV)
23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.

Daniel 7:23-24 New English Translation (NET Bible)

23 “This is what he told me:
‘The fourth beast means that there will be a fourth kingdom on earth
that will differ from all the other kingdoms.
It will devour all the earth
and will trample and crush it.
24 The ten horns
mean that ten kings will arise from that kingdom.
Another king will arise after them,
but he will be different from the earlier ones.
He will humiliate three kings.

23 Many think the fourth kingdom was Rome which has influenced every modern nation since. The sun doesn’t set on the Roman Empire because its influence was carried thru out the world. Rome was the biggest empire, the Russian and British empires were both trying to be like Rome was. Rome tried to rule the world and not just an empire.

24 This is said to represent the kings of Rome. The other king is said to be the antichrist. This prophecy may still be in the future.

Yes, your thoughts would be dead on, that its speaks of the days of the Roman empire.

Daniel 2 is the same account mentioned in Daniel 7. Daniel 2 is spoken directly to the king and Daniel 7 is Daniel opening up about his dream to himself, but they are of the same accounts that were to happen.

We know this has already happened due in part because Daniel 2:44 has already happened, and all this during the days of the Roman empire.

In Matthew 16:18-19, Jesus mentions that the kingdom will be set up by Peter upon his confession (on this rock). Historically, Rome is ruling during this time but Daniel 2:44 has not happened yet.

In Acts 2, Peter is the one making that "confession"(upon this rock in Matt16). The people were "cut/pricked to/in the/their heart" and willing to do anything to make it right Acts 2:37, and the kingdom began once they became baptized Acts 2:38, 41, 47. Historically, Rome is still ruling.

We also know by the context used in scripture, that the Kingdom in Daniel 2:44 is set up.

Everything before Acts 2 is put in future tense and everything after Acts 2 is present tense.

Examples:
Matthew 3:2 -future tense
Colossians 1:12-14 -present tense

Matthew 10:7 - future tense
Revelation 1:9 - present tense

As far as your thoughts on verse 24, you veered way off. Notice that it says "from that kingdom" are the horns. The kings of that kingdom. The Roman empire was destroyed centuries upon centuries upon centuries ago. This event has already happened.

Check out the history of the civil war Rome had called the "year of the 4 Emperors"
