  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Daniel 6:19-20 King James Version (KJV)
19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.

20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?

Daniel 6:19-20 New English Translation (NET Bible)
God Rescues Daniel from the Lions

19 In the morning, at the earliest sign of daylight, the king got up and rushed to the lions’ den. 20 As he approached the den, he called out to Daniel in a worried voice, “Daniel, servant of the living God, was your God whom you continually serve able to rescue you from the lions?”

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

19 The king got up to go see Daniel as soon as he could because Daniel had to spend the night in the lions den so the king could not do anything before morning.

20 The king showed faith in the Lord, even though he turned to Him in faith, because he believed Daniel could still believe alive, if someone lost showed this much faith how much more should we show.

Darius had been tricked by Daniel's enemies to kill him, and he could not change his decree because it would be against the law of the Medes and Persians (Daniel 6:12). But Darius cared about Daniel and was anxious all night and as soon as he could go to Daniel he did. He certainly had some faith that Daniel's God might save him and some understanding of who he is. Darius is more famously known as Cyrus the Great who helped the Jews return from Exile (Ezra 1 - where Cyrus also shows acknowledgement of the Lord). But we know his acknowledgement was not saving faith because Isaiah 45:4 tells us. Whatever faith Darius had he didn't seem to see the need to know the Lord for himself. The fact that this pagan king showed the faith he did, it should indeed encourage us who know the Lord personally, not to doubt his ability and desire to help us!
