Daniel 5:29-31 King James Version (KJV)
29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.

29 Then, on Belshazzar’s orders, Daniel was clothed in purple, a golden collar was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed third ruler in the kingdom. 30 And in that very night Belshazzar, the Babylonian king, was killed. 31 (6:1) So Darius the Mede took control of the kingdom when he was about sixty-two years old.

29 We know from scripture because Belshazzar was second the first was in the fields living as an ox. Daniel was honored simply because he gave and served with what God gave him, and by serving God we will find honor given to us thru His grace.
30-31 So Belshazzar was killed this put Daniel in charge because the king was not of sound mind this always left the kingdom very weak because Daniel just was given control. That is why the Medes took the kingdom over because it was in a sense of chaos.
