Daniel 5:1-4 King James Version (KJV)
5 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.
3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.
4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

Belshazzar Sees Mysterious Handwriting on a Wall
5 King Belshazzar prepared a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles, and he was drinking wine in front of them all. 2 While under the influence of the wine, Belshazzar issued an order to bring in the gold and silver vessels—the ones that Nebuchadnezzar his father had confiscated from the temple in Jerusalem—so that the king and his nobles, together with his wives and his concubines, could drink from them. 3 So they brought the gold and silver vessels that had been confiscated from the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles, together with his wives and concubines, drank from them. 4 As they drank wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone.

1 They were living a life of self pride. They thought they did not have to answer to anyone.
2-3 This was not a wise decision this was sacred items for service of the Lord. This shows that he did not think so much of God. This showed that he did not care of what had happened to his father by his experience. These vessels were not too used by anyone other than the priests they were never to be touched by Gentiles.
4 They praised their gods, they were thankful to their gods, they had self value, which is not always bad but when there is in their eyes more than God it is a big problem. They used God’s vessels for pagan worship.
