Social media is built on bad blood. No escaping it.
Better to avoid gzt
the sarcasm just looks immature.
plus that's more how it happened, if you look at what both sides said after the fallout. maybe there is some knew info out there, that I have not seen.
as a priest, I try not to judge others priests unless I have all the facts. and I know I don't have all the facts, so I will go with what both sides say.
I do agree with you that we need more politeness and less snarkiness, and with prodromos, that we ought to refer to Orthodox priests by their proper title. I may think Metropolitan Kallistos to have uttered heresy, but that does not make me right to just call him "Ware", the purpose of which is to be disrespectful, which is a spirit not of the Church.
And I think it very good that you start from the position you describe. So often there are vital facts we don't know. But - if you really have all the important and relevant facts - then to be silent, or to try to remain neutral over a question with a clear and straightforward answer serves the side we're supposed to be fighting against. At that point neutrality becomes an evil.
And I do see duplicity in the responses from the good content controller - affirmations of standing behind Orthodox teaching coupled with continued support and hosting of speakers who hold strong public anti-Orthodox positions, to say nothing of podcasts promoting the enjoyment of openly immoral entertainment. This is damaging to all of us, and silence over it, or attempts to support all sides, is destructive to unity and brotherhood among us, for love without truth is as bad as truth without love. As long as they claim to be Orthodox, they represent us to the world, whether we like it or not.
Sure. I can accept that. But it has been said again and again now that there a number of cases, not only that of Abbot Tryphon, even if we accept the best assurances that this one was resolved properly, there are other legitimate charges, including my own about the GOT episode that is STILL available on AFR. So I’m just plain not satisfied by the “There’s nothing to see here, folks, move along!” kind of response. The issues are NOT just about personal clashes between a a few Orthodox people, but about which understandings of what Orthodoxy is are going to be promoted on that very public platform. The inconsistencies between Fr Andrew’s statements and what in fact is being hosted and what isn’t remain inconsistent. The words don’t match the factual actions.thanks rus. and in one of Fr Andrew's posts, he brings up that he and Fr Tryphon had also been messaging each other privately, and the split was much more mutual, or at least seemed that way.

Well, since you know we’re not supposed to judge other people, their state before God, I’m assuming you mean judge their actions. If it was just you and me, I don’t guess I’d need to say that, but there is a peanut gallery, so...I am not saying there is nothing to see or that AFR couldn't use a facelift or whatever. all I am saying is that in the case of AFR and Fr Tryphon, there are things going on that I don't know, so I am not going to judge either man.

But there are specific actions that we do know, and if we refuse to admit when asked that the actions are wrong, we become participants by silence in the evil.
For example, encouraging people to watch pornographic television under the auspices of Orthodox approval is wrong and should be stopped immediately - yes or no?
Having speakers who teach and preach in the name of Orthodoxy, while publicly opposing Orthodox teaching is wrong and should stop, yes or no?
It’s fairly simple, and doesn’t involve any judging of persons.
Boy, internet Orthodoxy sure is a bummer sometimes.

"Para-doxy" That's a fun punI think YouTube is, surprisingly, the best place for me; plenty of actual Orthodox channels, with some of the nicest and wholesome comment sections I've ever seen (no sarcasm). While Facebook is a horrendous, vile den of para-doxy so to say. Guess everything else is in between.

And Facebook... ew. I use it for family and friends and a few animal groups. Absolutely nothing else.
Most of the Orthodox videos I watch on YouTube have comments that mostly aren't in English, haha. But that's music. I've found a few channels I've liked.

That would be really useful. I know just enough Greek and Russian to pick apart some of the titles and know I want to watch them, but I don't understand either language spoken so if the translation isn't good, I'm up the creek.Sometimes I really wish YouTube didn't remove the "community captions" feature, I would totally add English captions to some of the more interesting videos I come across
I take it you know from experience? That must be frustrating.haha, yeah. the group Ask an Orthodox Priest should change its name to Tell an Orthodox Priest he's Wrong.

Father, you are wrong on the Star Wars prequel though
