  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I voted I don't know.

I've heard of it, read some of it, knew a lady who swore by it, even heard preachers endorse it. I've also read threads where people would show the problems with the comments it has. I may not agree with some of the views, but I'm not knowledgeable enough about it to make a determination about one way or the other.

He spent his whole life on those notes and on a book he wrote called "God's plan for man". It is packed with scripture after scripture on doctrines from angels to the attributes of God. Of couse with any annotated Bible, you get scripture plus the person's opinion. IMO, he was somewhat slanted towards the belief that all of the gifts are in operation today, just as some which have notes are slanted towards other perspectives.

Dake's book God's Plan For Man has some questionable theology in it. He seems to be a tritheist, not a Trinitarian. Condsider the following:

There are over 500 plain scriptures that refer to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, as being three separate and distinct persones, each with His own personal body, soul, and spirit in the sense that all other persons have them. . . . If two or three persons are referred to in all these passages and they are called God, then we must understand them as referring to this many divine persons, as we do when the same statements are made of two or three persons of the human race.

He also states that it is a fallacy to believe "that there is only one person or one being called God." and "that there is a difference in meaning of three human persons and three divine persons."

Let me know if you want to know more about Dake's errors.

If and when I buy a Dake's Bible, the only place it will be in my study will be next to my Book of Mormon (D&C, and Pearl of Great Price), Qur'an (Koran), and other books which I don't consider good. I just have them to learn what others believe. I say stay away from it. If you want a good study Bible, get a Thompson Chain or a Scofield. I'm currently using a Cambridge, wide-margin edition KJV Bible (no notes, just a few references).

I have a Dake's Bible and have been using it for 2 years.

I was looking for a new Bible and realised that there are many versions out there and was very worried that I would end up with a "no good version" So as any good Christian I prayed about it earnestly! About a week later I was just visisting a Christian book store with no real intention in buying anything when a sales lady walked up to me and asked if I was looking for a new Bible! You can just imagine my surprise! She then said that the Dake's is what I'm looking for! Ok I know you must all be thinking that its just a coincidence! I don't believe anything God does is coincidental. So you make up your own mind.

God bless

I have a Dake Bible and Dake has some interesting ideas, but I don't think I'd call it heretical. He is a Gap Theorist and makes some unsubstantiated claims based on poor exegesis. For instance, he uses Jer 4:23 to support the Gap Theory, but that is a completely wrong interpretation. The writer was using exaggeration and phenomenological words to describe the destruction after the war- not after Pre-Adamite (as Dake has dubbed those who lived during the gap) man was destroyed. He also makes many many lists that take liberties with Scripture. A lot of it is based on his own beliefs, and not sound exegesis. That is the problem with single writers of Bible notes. Several authors can often get rid of a lot of the bias.

He does have a ton of great (and substantiated) history throughout the notes. Much of the exegesis, notes and lists are correct. But, with Dake, much like Barclay or many of the other recent historically-minded commentators, you must take each issue with a grain of salt. Check out each of their claims against the Scripture and with other authors. It is a great resource, but flawed, just as any human writing other than Scripture. I would say that Dake is more flawed than most, though.

Was so close to my Dakes, I think I still am. It was also my first study bible being from a Pentecostal Charismatic background. And my father has used the Dakes for as long as I remember. I had always thought that is a good starting point if you want to know the scriptures. But lately am not so sure anymore. But it has contributed so much in building my Christian life!. I think where I don’t agree with Him I have decided that he is a person. No human work is infallible anyway. This just shows that only God alone is perfect! I use it, and carry it when needed. But I do compare and research further if I am not satisfied with what he is suggesting in some instances.
