  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does he mean that he portrays them in thier true forms, or merely that they truely existed. An interesting and important distinction. People write fiction involving real people all the time. I'm surprised I've never seen an "Elvis Detective Series" where the King solves Crimes and saves the ladies (I did see Bubba-Ho-Tep, though).

As for defense of your Christian beliefs, you have no need to defend them. If I don't believe them, does it make them less true to you. It shouldn't if you truely believe. I believe Stonehenge is sacred. You can scoff at that all you want and it will still be my personal belief. Don't let the disbelief of others affect your own convictions. I do however, think that one must only believe what they believe, not what others tell them to believe.

"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense. "

The Da Vinci Code is not evil. It's a so-so-written, but fun to read, work of complete fiction.

Also, the movie watered it down. It is not insulting to those who believe in a higher power as long as they realize it's just fiction, just a hot topic picked because it would give an otherwise kind of boring story pizazz.

Why are so many people so worried about a book and movie being "evil", yet so few questions are asked if the shoes a person is buying is evil (ie, manufactured in sweatshops, or by children, or in toxic work conditions).

Some people have told me that Dan Brown himself said that the story was real. "look at the front page of the book!" So, next time I went into my local book-store, and I did. It's true. Now, I'm not quoting exactly, but, Dan Brown says something like this: "All depictions of Historical figures, secret societys, & Famous people are true". Bassicaly saying everything in his book, except the fictional characters that uncover the secrets, is true. Any thoughts?

The same exact claim is made at the beginning of the movie "The Hunt for Red October". Dan Brown can say anything he wants to.

I personally don't believe that it is true. not because I'm religious, but because in order for the story to be real, Jesus must also have been real. And I don't think jesus ever existed.

I am a white author.

I write a book under the guise of fiction calles "the negro code"

in it i claim Martin Luther King Jr. was a womanizer.

he had a child with his misstress and fled to Las Vegas, where he is residing today.

I also say EVERYTHING IN MY BOOK IS TRUE on the first page, yet still place it in the fiction section.

The dvcode is offensive to me, fiction or not.

Incidently it doesn't say that EVERYTHING IN THE BOOK IS TRUE.

Since you have obviously never actually read the book here's what it says.

FACT:
The Priory of Sion—a European secret society founded in 1099—is a real organization. In 1975 Paris's Bibliothèque Nationale discovered parchments known as Les Dossiers Secrets, identifying numerous members of the Priory of Sion, including Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Leonardo da Vinci.
The Vatican prelature known as Opus Dei is a deeply devout Catholic sect that has been the topic of recent controversy due to reports of brainwashing, coercion, and a dangerous practice known as "corporal mortification." Opus Dei has just completed construction of a $47 million World Headquarters at 243 Lexington Avenue in New York City.
All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals in this novel are accurate.

It has been too long since America had a fine old book burning!

Not really, in the biblebelt there are places where they burned copies of harry potter books.

Because apparently there is nothing more threatening to christianity than a literate child.

The book was written horribly & brown stole almost all the research from other people. He exploited some Christians' insecurities and made a ton of money off of it.

Indeed!

People like the OP made Mr. Brown a great deal of money.

You cannot buy that kind of publicity.
