  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hmmm... my answer is yes. My folks were out a month or two ago, so I decided to do some Pay-Per-Vewing. "Da Vinci Code". Looks ineresting. I was expecting some sort of European twist on National Treasure, or something. That's not what I got. In the end; it had some nail- biting, butt-stiffening moments, but it left one with the conclusion that: not only is ther no God, it's crazy to believe so. And that sense ther is no God: Jesus was(of course!) not God. Jesus was a "Hugh Heffner" of his time, and that he never died on the cross. very offensive to me, fiction or not! But then ther was... It's not fiction. Some people have told me that Dan Brown himself said that the story was real. "look at the front page of the book!" So, next time I went into my local book-store, and I did. It's true. Now, I'm not quoting exactly, but, Dan Brown says something like this: "All depictions of Historical figures, secret societys, & Famous people are true". Bassicaly saying everything in his book, except the fictional characters that uncover the secrets, is true. Any thoughts?

I may not be the right person to ask. I view the Bible as almost 100% fiction as well. What I mean by this is that I am willing to acknowledge that Jesus very probably existed, and I have no particular reason to doubt that he was grotesquely murdered. All the stuff in the book about Jesus' offspring, the holy grail, secret societies, etc., is fascinating and made for a throughly gripping read, but I feel no need to examine its truth or falsehood, as I have more pressing issues demanding my attention and activism in the here and now.

Yes, "The DaVinci Code" is way evil. I expected a much better performance from Tom Hanks. I actually fell asleep half way through that movie. Then I almost cried when I realized I wasted $5 at the video rental store.

Oh my goodness, welcome to 24 months ago. Do you want to go on and on about how Terri Schiavo's life should be spared, too?

A deeper knowledge of history easily reveals that DVC is entirely fiction. While the priory of scion, knights templar, opus dei, etc, all really existed, the way they are connected into a conspiracy is pure fiction and dramatic license. The "symbols" the book talks about in The Last Supper by DaVinci are all there, but mean something entirely different. For example, it's well documented that in classical art, John is often depicted as having feminine traits (I forget why on the top of my head, someone more familiar with art history may be able to fill in). In the book Brown claims that this is Mary Magdalene, not John.

The hysteria about DVC being "evil" is nothing but the rants and ravings of ideologists who heard something a little offensive about it, and did not use their brains to look at what's really there or do any research about the ideas surrounding it.

I am a white author.

I write a book under the guise of fiction calles "the negro code"

in it i claim Martin Luther King Jr. was a womanizer.

he had a child with his misstress and fled to Las Vegas, where he is residing today.

I also say EVERYTHING IN MY BOOK IS TRUE on the first page, yet still place it in the fiction section.

The dvcode is offensive to me, fiction or not.

And more power to you. Whether your book sells millions or falls flat, I will defend your right to express yourself while simultaneously condemning your views. What's the problem?

The dvcode is offensive to me, fiction or not.
Okay. I'm offended by your baseless claim that every word of the Bible is true. How does this matter?

Only Mr. Brown makes no such claim that “everything in my book is true” In "The DaVinci Code".

Look, I do not want to have to defend my christian beliefs on this site. After all it's called Christian Forums!
You don't have to defend every last belief in order to prove that DVC is controversial. You don't actually have to defend your beliefs at all (even though you and I obviously differ widely on a wide range of topics).

But if your goal is to be persuasive, it would be helpful if you made more cogent arguments.
