This apparently isn't O.K. in Georgia now. Give the state credit for doing the right thing.

A FORMER Georgia prosecutor was indicted Thursday for her handling of Ahmaud Arbery’s fatal shooting.

Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney Jackie Johnson was indicted on charges of violating her oath of office and hindering a law enforcement officer.

Attorney Jackie Johnson has been indicted charges alleging she used her position to shield the men who chased and killed Ahmaud Arbery. One of the killers was a former employee of the DA.

The indictment alleges Johnson used her position to shield the men who chased and killed Arbery from being charged with crimes immediately after the shootings.

Arbery was killed in February 2020, after a white father and son, Greg and Travis McMichael, armed themselves and pursued the 25-year-old black man.

A neighbor, William “Roddie” Bryan, joined the chase and took cellphone video of Travis McMichael shooting Arbery at close range with a shotgun.

Thursday’s indictment was the result of an investigation Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr requested last year.
...
The indictment claims Johnson showed “favor and affection” toward Greg McMichael in the investigation and interfered with police officers at the scene by “directing that Travis McMichael should not be placed under arrest.”

Hi barbarian,

It's sad that people do these things. Yet, we hear from many that racism no longer exists in America. Ahmaud Arbery's only crime was to be a black man jogging through a white neighborhood in Georgia.

God bless,
Ted

I'm impressed that even though the killers were protected by powerful people, the state indicted them and one of the officials who tried to cover it up.

Hi barbarian,

Just watched last night the docudrama on Bob Zellner, 'Son of the South'. He's another one, raised in a family of KKK members, who did the right thing. There are such people out there and hopefully one day there will be enough such people that we won't read about such atrocities as these...but we're not there yet.

God bless,
Ted

It's sad that people do these things. Yet, we hear from many that racism no longer exists in America.

Donald Trump showed us that isn't true.

Ahmaud Arbery's only crime was to be a black man jogging through a white neighborhood in Georgia.

And probably is in a lot of places in red states. But it's no longer safe to attack those people. Even in the deep south, that behavior can now put racists away, including the officials who enable them.

I'm not all that surprised that the killers were arrested. But it's news when a racist politician gets indicted for her crimes.

It's as though America is stuck in the early 20th century rather than moving on into the future. These are things that occurred back then as whites fought to keep the black folks as inferior. The boxing champion Jim Jeffries retired instead of giving the black Jack Johnson a shot at his title. He said a black man would never be champion. After Johnson destroyed every challenger for a couple years the white supremacists convinced him he was the only hope for them to beat Johnson to put blacks in their place. Johnson punished Jeffries for 14 rounds before knocking him out in the 15th. They cut the tv feed so delicate white folks weren't forced to watch or share the humiliation. The next day the American media, I believe the LA Times, published "A word to black people". An article reminding black folks they didn’t do anything. They were still inferior and should bow to the white master race whenever asked to. It seems America isn't far enough removed from the days of slavery to completely accept equality yet. Six to eight successive generations have perpetuated the racism still abundantly exercised by close minded people in America. I see Obamas presidency closely resembles the America of 1910. The supremacists are still extremely triggered that a black man earned the presidency. TWICE! Trump was their great white hope like Jeffries. And he was soundly defeated like Jeffries.
