cutting- new therapy?

I watched "7th Heaven" today and it was about a girl who was a cutter. Anybody seen that show?

Havn't seen it, tho this reminds me that there was a USA original movie in 2000 called "Secret Cutting" which, despite the rather cheesy title, was very good. It's worth seeking out on video if it's ever been released that way, IMO.

self-injury is still somewhat a taboo in society, some people think its for atention and some people think its just failed suicide attempt, i am sure there is more help on the internet. i pull my hair and (nobody hold this against me) but i'm bald.

It's interesting you mention that.... I went to school with a girl who compulsivly pulled her hair when I was younger (I understand there's a psychological term for it but I can't recall it), and I just found myself thinking about her the other day....

Has anyone here ever heard of Dawson Mcallaster, his show is on alot of major christian radio stations across the country. His shows are really interesting, and they have helped me alot. He has a website called dmlive. com. And you can post stuff there also on sunday nights you can listen to his show live if you want to.

I had never heard of "cutting" until coming here. I remember my friend and I sitting in her bedroom sticking safety pins into our arms and legs (you know like some of the younger ppl used to wear them on their clothes, we'd weare them in our skin). And we'd do it over and over. We both were suffering from depression as teenagers too so now I'm wondering if that wasn't SI. I don't remember when we stopped but I'm so glad we did! I do bite my lip to the point of bleeding and I often find myself digging my fingernails into the palms of my hands for no apparent reason. I'm going to try to be more aware when I do that now to see if I'm tensed about something.

I totally know what you mean Hopeful! A lot of my untrue friends deserted me because they though i was SIing for attention! it drove me mad!

Cutting oneself is self hate. I used to feel like hurting myeself to alleviate the pain of self hate. Now knowing I'm forgiven for everything I've ever done wrong, I haven't felt like doing that in years.

gaaaaaaaaaaaah stuff like that makes my blood boil..... "so and so is hurting themselves.... let's ignore the possible issues that could be behind it, and add to it by abandon ing them....."

Cutting IS sometimes/often about self hate, but IMO there's more to it.... and, in my experience, there's sometimes a wide gulf between believing God loves you unconditionally and really internalizing it. Still, it's great that you got past that

Something I've found out about SI is that it's really hard to hide. for example my friend put her hand on my arm to pull me today and ripped up all the blisters that I had. OWWW!

Did you burn yourself lately intentionally? Burns are worse than cutting sometimes. I burn myself sometimes but I work in a restuarant and it is easily done and excused. I know I shouldn't though.

I have burned myself before and I did it very discreetly. The times I did it was when I was baking or cooking something in the oven. That was actually burned before I got into cutting. I don't do it as often as I used to but I think about doing it a lot.

Yea I did Debbi, first with a hot iron then with a curling iron.. but I've gone a week w/out SI and I'm doing okay now
