  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are you for capitol punishment? My feelings on it aren't that strong but if I had to give an answer I'd say no.

Here's a story I hope will be of interest for some of you. It's about an exucution that was stayed in final 10 minutes. Good story!

/me wonders why the stories about criminals murdering 2nd and 3rd times after getting out of jail aren't hyped as much ;) heh.....

I'd be for capital punishment, all the way. But used with extreme caution, really.

It'd be nice if we actually kept murderers in a prison for life instead of keep letting them out

I'll agree with that, heh.

Personally, I rather ilke it, I just wish it wasn't quite so "easy" ... it'd be nice if, as I said, they realized that a murder doesn't often suddenly have a change of heart (or brain chemicals) that will make him not murder anymore ;)

Paulewog I believe this story proves that if states insists upon keeping capital punishment that there has to be better safe guards to prevent miscariages in justice to happen. I mean come on! An all white jury in Texas is going to decide if a black man is going to die for the death of a white man?

I agree, our justice system can be messed up. Over here in California, a convicted murderer that had been in jail for 17 years was suddenly set free.... and not on any new evidecne as far as I know, either. I can't remmeber the "reason" he was let loose. Heh.

Yes, it's called getting saved - but you're still to be punished. heh.

"Veangence is mine, saith the Lord" - and He's given that authority to the government.... not us.... :)

I am an avid cricket fan (not a well known sport in the USA) and have been following the WORLD CUP being played in South Africa, Kenya and Zimbabwe at present. During one match between Australia and Zimbabwe played in Zimbabwe two players Andy Flower and Henry Olonga decided to wear black armbands. This was to symbolise the death of democracy in their country.

This has cuased them some problems. Henry Olonga was sacked from the team and his local club and Andy Flower was to be dropped from the national side expect most of his teammates threatened to not play in the next game of he was dropped. Well Andy has sent his family to England and now the tournament is finished for him he is trying to migrate to England with his family.

In the meantime Henry has gone into hiding from the authorities as they wish to try him for treason. The penalty for treason in Zimbabwe is death. He is trying to get out of the country and to another country we he can live.

I am against the death penalty. What is against the law in one country is not in another, should people be killed just because they were born in the wrong country at the wrong time?

I think people who commit crimes should be imprisoned and have their rights removed.

How long before the world community serves a death sentence on the whole of Zimbabwe due to human rights abuses?

Who decides what deserves death and what doesn't?

What gives them the right to make this decision?
