As you may already know that the pope has stated that he will resign, i'm sure you have heard of the prophecy of the popes which makes this whole thing surprising and urgent. If you haven't heard of the prophecy of the popes you may read about it here Prophecy of the Popes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but i will basically give you a short summary of it. There are 112 popes in this prophecy by Saint Malachy and the current pope who is resigning is the 111th "Benedict XVI / Joseph Ratzinger", the prophecies of the popes have been correct so far and the next pope who is predicted to be the last pope "Peter the Roman" and his prophecy is "Peter the Roman, who will nourish the sheep in many tribulations; when they are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The end." I believe this pope will most likely be the false prophet as do many other people.

Also it has been announced that President Obama will be going to Isreal for the first time in his presidency this spring, and maybe he will do what the Anti-Christ is stated to do there? I'd like to know your take on these current events and what you think about them.

I read the link and (what do I know?) I put no weight on this 'prophesy'. We were told in the bible the things to look for before the end comes. I don't feel the desire to speculate on adding more prophesy to end times than God gave us in his Word.

We are also told that no man knows the day or time, not even Jesus- only the Father. Though this prophesy doesn't offer an exact date, it suggests this man knew a narrow window in which this judgment would come, and one that is more specific than scripture? I disregard this. But again, I don't have all the answers.

The words spoken over each pope could be as accurate as a horoscope. Vague enough to find meaning in it if you look for it.

Sorry for my ignorance, but could you explain why you and many other people think this pope will be the false prophet?

Obama can't be the antichrist. Too many people dislike him. Joking. I have no idea. Interesting thought though.

Well it's not my final conclusion, i guess it's mainly because I've been watching to much videos on end-times and been paying attention to the world news a lot. This was the video that i watched on that, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIKoa2J7adI

Obama is not the anti-christ, of that I'm pretty certain. Whoever he is, he'll rise to the head of the UN and, unlike Obama, is going to have very, very few detractors. He'll seem to have all the answers to all human problems and will be loved and adored by nearly everyone, except born-again believers.

The prophecy of the popes is certainly interesting. Although I don't blindly accept extra-biblical revelation, I don't discount it out of hand either. This particular prophecy has been rather accurate. Even if its source is not God, the demonic is very much privy to things we are not, and can reveal such things.

The scenario of the final pope as the false prophet is, in my view, very prophetically sound. In the book of Revelation we read much about the city that sits on seven hills which is of course Rome. This leads me to believe that Rome will be very significant to the anti-christ's system. And considering the false prophet is obviously a religious figure, him being a pope is a reasonable speculation.

Here's how I see it. If the new pope comes in and starts doing miracles, that will verify his identity as the false prophet. If he starts working in tandem with a rising world leader, that will further confirm it. Will all of this happen? I don't know. Perhaps, perhaps not. But I do know this; based on all the signs we are told to look for in Matthew 24, and the fact that they are all occurring right now all across the world simultaneously, we are most certainly nearing the end of the age.

Bizarre weather, unexplained mass animal die offs, chaos in the middle east, the Ezekiel 38 scenario lining up, global economic depression, the potential impending destruction of Damascus; all of these current events point to a very near fulfillment of biblical prophecy. I'm pretty sure these are the end times.

Nope, never heard of this "prophecy of popes" until today, cause others on CF are talking about it.

I agree with the above poster, Obama isn't the anti-christ, he's got too low of a reputation on the world stage. The anti-christ - from what I understand - will be more of a political super star, will be extremely dynamic, brilliant, and likeable. Definitely NOT Obama.

I'm not worried. What good would worrying do anyway? When something worrisome happens, I'll deal with it as it comes. God says to be ready for His return every day, and to let each day take care of its own troubles. That's good enough for me.

The bible tells us to watch for the signs of his coming. one of those signs will be the state of the world.

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 2 timothy 3:1-5

true Jesus tells us that no one knows of the time except the father, but he does tell us to watch. the signs I look for are the state of society, current events, the nations, and Israel.

This has me interested for a few reasons, the first thing to come to mind was a verse in the bible.

Knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” 2 peter 3:3-4

i remember throughout the years there will be news about the end times coming at such n such a time, by Nostradamus, the Mayan calendar, various cults, and that one guy a few years back that spent a lot of money to post his date of the end times and the rapture. none of them happened. and after each one fails, more and more people scoff and make fun of the biblical end times.

I wonder ( depending on how many people pay attention to this one, and im sure there will be many) how many people will scoff if this one fails?

I think that because of this, either way it is a sign and will fulfill scripture. I think that these signs that we are to look for, are for Christians to believe and recognize, so that we may get our minds, spirit, and lives unplugged from the world and connected more to Christ.

The following was posted in another forum here on Cf. The credit for the post goes to Simply Put.

"The prophesy was from 1143 ad. Pope Innocent, the 165th pope was in rule at the time.

Well 112 popes after the 165 th would make the prophesy about the 277 th pope

Glad you asked: CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: List of Popes

Sorry guys. The current pope is only the 265th. There is another 12 popes to go."

Be interesting to hear the responses? Someone's obviously mixed up their math somewhere.

Also - FAITHINK - what Scripture were you referring to being fulfilled by this? You said "I think that... it is a sign and will fulfill Scripture".
Your post is kind of confusing to me but we are told to keep watch and pay attention of the signs to come, the false prophet and anti-christ will come and it isn't wrong to be sure and keep watch on who they may be before they show signs showing who they are. I'm not proclaiming that Obama is for sure the Anti-Christ without a doubt and the pope is the false prophet, i was just stating what i think and heard. I agree that the prophesy of the popes could be wrong and it isn't in the bible so it isn't 100% accurate but from what I've heard it has been fairly accurate so far so it is something worth checking out. I'm not sure what you mean by math being mixed up but the next pope up in the prophecy of Saint Malachy according to wikipedia is Peter the Roman and the past one was this current pope. I'm not catholic or anything this all is just something I've heard from the video posted a few posts ago.

the scripture i was referring to was the one I posted of 2 peter about the scoffers.

if many people are watching (if not the whole world) and expecting this to be a sign of the end times and the coming of the antichrist, but it doesn't happen. it will cause many, many, many, people to scoff. Christians are not the only ones watching. Unbelievers will be watching too. I remember when ( i cant remember his name) that one guy who thought he found out the date of the end times and rapture, spent a lot of money to post it everywhere. when that date came and went, the response of unbelievers making fun of Christians, the rapture, and the end times was huge. How much more will it be when most of the world is watching this, knowing that us silly Christians think its the sign of the end times once again.

I'm still a little confused - are you saying you think this is a false sign of God's return or a true sign? - but it's OK.
No no, i wasn't trying to say these are signs of God's return or anything or even any major signs. The signs are still to come just as the Anti-Christ and False Prophet are yet to be reveled. I wanted to see what people thoughts were about this whole pope and obama situation.

do i think its a false sign of the Lords return?
since its not clearly stated in the bible that the last pope will be the antichrist, nor its it a sign we are told to watch for. then no it is not a sign that the next pope is the antichrist.
What i am saying however, is that the possible result of it will be the sign in 2 peter.

We are instructed to watch for his coming, But sometimes when notions and rumors like this become viral in the public, and when these rumors turn out to be false, the end result is that it becomes a joke.

Is this pope thing a sign of Christs return? Well its not scriptural as far as I know. But there are plenty of other scriptural signs today that indicate that its not far off. I don't think we need whats going on with the pope to know that already.

so, is Christs return imminent? yes
Are there signs present now? yes
Is the pope a sign? not directly, but can result in one
Does the pope need to be a sign, or is it suppose to be a sign? no, absolutely not.
