I just want to ask a very quick question. is there any brach of Baptist Churches that do not believe in the innerancy of The Bible, at least on historical/scientific issues(they can believe in its innerancy on religious issues only, they still fit in what I want to know)?
I think you'll find if someone does deny the inerancy of the Bible or even because liberal in understanding the word they tend to leave the Church.

I highly doubt it. Since the first distinctive of the Baptist belief system is the that Bible is the sole authority for the believer's life. Hard to base your life on something that you think is not accurate. Or at least foolish.

On the other hand Baptist churches are also autonomous.... so who knows. There are even (I just learned) some Baptist churches that have women pastors... which good or bad is something that at one point I may have said you would never see. It is not a distinctive per say (women that is)...

Mabey one of the churches with a woman pastor will have the opinion of the Bible that you're wondering about....

Just because you find one... doesn't make it the norm... or a trend. Or right.

The CBF (Cooperative Baptist Fellowship) churches can sometimes be squishy on inerrancy. I believe there are some American Baptist Churches that sit on the same fence.

But, as has been correctly noted, most who do not hold to this doctrine usually leave... and then tell stories about "close-minded" Baptists who beat people over the head with over-sized, black KJV Bibles.

(It's also best to picture these "close-minded Baptists" in badly-fitting suits with short ties... say they sweat a lot and have heavy southern accents and a 2nd-grade education and the sympathy will flow... Of course, it's also helpful to suggest that anyone who believes the Bible to be innerrant also wants to bring back slavery, oppress women and teach the "flat earth" theory. ) ;)

I heard these horror stories ad nauseum while I was in "another church" (in every sense of the word)... but now that I worship as a Baptist, I can't seem to find any of these cruel, pre-adamic people... and I live in Alabama! :)
