• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

HI. I was just wondering if anyone else has crying jags for no apparent reason? I have been very well controlled for months and don't get down as much anymore. Actually am feeling good for the 1st time in a long time. The other day, I was talking to my psych on the phone - mainly small talk - and I just started crying and saying "I'm such a loser", "I will always be like this", " I want to hit everything in sight or some other form of SI". I have no idea what precipitated the episode.

Anyone else ever had a similar experience? Is it just part of being bipolar?

THESE ARE WHAT MOST STAND OUT TO ME ABOUT MY CHILDHOOD, THESE UNCONTROLLABLE CRYING EPISODES. Sorry for the caps, my house is torn up and my keyboard is on my lap! :) I still have a few but not to the extreme unless it is a major trigger. I do tear up easy and cry about dumb things like moving sotries or movies! :)

I have had my share of crying spells. In my case, it's a bad sign.
After being in an abusive relationship where I was forbidden to cry, I had trained myself not to cry. I grew so used to that, that now when I cry and it's for no reason........I'm in the middle of an episode. This would be the time I need to see my therapist the most and get to the bottom of the problem afore it gets full-blown and lands me in the hospital.
God bless!
:hug:s and :angel::kiss:es!!

Hello,
I am comming to this therad a bit late. I also have problems with crying. I will cry at happy & sad parts of movies, songs, situations in public I see. I am very emotional, and very sensitive to other's feelings in the situations they are going through. Especially when I pray! I get embarraces about it at home watcing movies, adn things like that. I have been working on not crying so much while watching TV. I had these "problems" as a child a lot. I could try to participate in fun, laughing, and playful teasing, but when it was directed towards me, I would get really hurt, fold my arms, adn close everyone out, an go off crying. At one of my birthday parties, i didn't win a game,a dn ran off crying. My Mom tried to calm me down, and even reminded me that I didn't even like the candy that was te prize, but I still couldnot help it because the kid was jumping all around saying how he won, and we didn't. When my kiddies don't listen to me first time, I take it personally, adn I do understand they are just bing kids, but it's hard to change a lifetime of being this way. I am working on it... :)

I am like angelkiss. Pretty much was forbidden to cry growing up so when i do now i know it's an episode. I have never cried in front of my psych either. On the phone once or twice. And i've been with her 4 years. I don't know why i think it is a protective defense mechanism.

I go through extremes a lot. I'll be smiling and laughing and then just burst out crying or I'll be overdramatic and then go emotionless. I've cried over stupid stuff and big stuff. Just two nights ago I was watching Phantom of the Opera and I started bawling at the end. I've always been an overdramatic kid so I don't know. You're not alone though. Frankly, I don't mind it that much. I have trouble crying in front of people I don't know well though. That's where I usually hide tears until I'm away if I can. Hope that helps...

As a man it is seemingly a little less socially acceptable to cry, but truth be told I do, often. Seems like I can be talking away and some gripping situation will stop me all up. It has lessened somewhat since meds, but still happens. :cry: Seems all to often it is when I realize what bipolar has done to my life, and how I have to fight its effects.

Anyway, .......for what it is worth.
