  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been looking for someone with the same interest in the arts and crafts section to talk to. Are there any crocheters(if that's even a word) that have IM or would like to talk to someone with a similar interest in crocheting?

I have crocheted for many years.... you can always contact me any time. I use mostly Yahoo Messenger for IM and sometimes MSN messenger.

I think crocheting is my favorite arts and crafts... but then again it is usually whatever I am working on that is my favorite. I expect to hit crochet "burn out" soon and will move onto reading or the like for a while.... who knows.

Please feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss crochet or whatever. :D

Lol, I'm kind of self taught. My grandma started teaching me several years ago, but I never really got interested till latly and now I'm teaching myself.
My mother is a huge crocheter, knitter, sewer, etc. -- made all our clothes and everything when we were growing up. She tried for years to teach me to crochet, but I didn't learn until I was 30, when I decided I wanted to; I picked up a book at the library and followed the diagrams. Luckily, she found it funny instead of insulting!

boy at home I feel old, but I feel really young here...I'm the youngest.
Don't imagine crocheting is a big trend among the iPod generation...

When I take my crocheting on the train with me, fifty- and sixty-year-old women look at me and say, "I didn't think young women did that anymore."

Too bad, too. With the popularity of ponchos among "them young folks," you'd think more would want to learn. Instant gratification, I guess...

I've not gotten too many funny looks, in fact I was at the hostpital in the waiting room waiting for my mom to get back from her appointment a few weeks ago, when a lady came across the waiting room to me and just had to know what I was making and the thread/yarn I was using. I figure if they want to give funny looks then they just don't appreciate what it is we do, crochet, knit... any hand craft really and thus they are not candidates to receive. :p

My mom tells me I taught myself crochet, I don't remember for sure, but she said she was trying and failing to teach herself when I just said I could do it ...and then I did. I've been crocheting for at least 20+ years. And I still love it. I am not working on knitting too.

Oh, I've been wondering how you do that.

WEll, you start with a chain, of either the length or width you want the scarf, and then kind of build a wall to the other side. I'll have to look up the exacts. Give me a minute.
