DH informed me that we're not getting a crib this time because there is no room. (I sold our last crib in a garage sale last year because I knew we weren't having any more babies. lol) My kids never really did sleep much in a crib, but it sure was handy having something high enough to change diapers in without killing my back... So I'm not sure how this is going to work...

I'm getting a bassinette for our room...
And it just so happens that the cot i chose turns into a toddler bed.

I wouldn't be going and buying one that converts to a single bed though, cause you will have to keep buying a new cot everytime you had more babies!
Single beds are much cheaper than cots!!! :D

I work at a baby shop and we don't sell alot of the cots that turn into a single bed... they are really really expensive... nice but expensive!!!

Just my humble opinion.... do not under any circumstance buy a Simplicity/Graco crib.... that's what we bought and its been a nightmare... they've had recall after recall for almost 4 years now of both the old models and the new models, and there's been 3 deaths 7 entrapments and 55 injuries. They won't replace ours or the other more than 1 million crappy cribs. They send a "kit" and expect everyone to feel better. I am extremely unhappy with our experience and if I had it to do over again even low income, I would buy a higher priced crib. There is a book out called "Baby Bargains" (maybe library has it?) that tells you what the safety rating of different brands and different items is and I highly recommend it because I sure wish I had it when I bought a crib when pregnant with David :(

Ours is convertible but haven't used it because we just keep putting new babies in there.

Most of the cots we sell over here in Australia can convert to a toddler bed. Its usually only the really, really cheap ones that don't. And they are all rickety with the sides on anyways...

Personally I don't think we will use the cot as the toddler bed, cause we want to have a few children and not have huge gaps between them...

I have finally decided on the cot... We are going to get a Boori King Parrot Cot... (King Parrot is Boori's other brand... basically its a more affordable cot...) I just have to get off my butt and actually order it though!!! One of the bad things about working in a baby shop... I just keep thinking i can do it later!!!

We aren't getting a cot until when the baby is ready to go into it. We are getting a basinet that is on a stand, and that will be in our room. We just don't have the space for a cot until we are absolutely ready for it. When we do get one, I've got my eye on a basic model from Target that has a matching change table. That was the one thing we didn't get with DD that we really regret not getting.

We did have a "table" of sorts, but it was lower than the change tables that we are going to get this time, it really hurt my back to have to lean over all the time. We used it all the time.

We didn't get one originally because so many people said they didn't need it. But I guess everyone is different! :)

We won't be doing a changing table either... We can't afford the expense, and don't have the room for it.

We keep debating between this crib and this one.
We've also been discussing whether or not a travel-crib would make a good playpen/visit at the grandparents crib/playpen to have on hand... as we have no idea how often we'll be over there vs them being over here, and how often we'll be having visits an hour south of us with the great-grands. If we do decide on it, I have a feeling my MIL and FIL will help on that end.

I saw one a bit differently than the one I linked above - it wasn't Graco, but I can't recall the company name... it had a bed that was in it like a hammock/changing table that could be removed - and it was a playpen otherwise.

We still need to look for a swing and high-chair and carseat... DH is trying so hard to wait until we have $ to do that though, and I keep telling him it isn't much longer, it'd probably be best to really start looking now so we can compare prices, rather than waiting to the last minute.

Well my first priority is getting the Arms Reach Co-sleeper for our bed. I'd also like to get a full nursery for when the baby is removed from sleeping with us, but it depends on how finances go and how generous the grandparents will be :)

I was at target the other night and this is the style of crib that I am most interested in. It also has beautiful matching dresser and changing table. Also the cherry is classic and classy looking. The nice thing is it converts into a full sized bed and if down the road we decide to do new furniture for the toddler or whatever it can always replace our "cheap" spare bedroom furniture.
