The Catholic Church has changed its stance on cremation. As long as the person who died and/or the survivors do not intend cremation to be a statement against the belief of the resurrection of the body, cremation is allowed. And because of the belief in the resurrection of the body, the cremains should not be scattered, but either interred or even deposited at sea in a closed container.

The Kennedy family had JFK Jr. deposited at sea, near Martha's Vineyard, following cremation.

Peace be with you,

My mom is going to be cremated and she is RC.
Did God have the power to create Adam from dust?
What makes you think God doesn't have the power to put your body back together from dust??
I think its discusting how funeral parlors rake in the cash by giving these glorious caskets to lay the dead in.
Would you want your family to spend 6000 on a casket just for looks that is going in the ground or spend 1000 and use the money another way. Like...have the family take a vacation to the loved ones favorite spot!
OK..now I am rambling!
Sorry!

*self serving bump*

Does anyone have any passages in the bible that might help me make a decision on this?

I hate the idea of thousands being spent on a funeral or someone feeling like they have to go visit my grave.

"Love me while I'm here, don't cry for me when I'm gone"

Well Lost, someone has to cry sometime. I have already made arrangements in my will for three professional mourners. After all, it just seems fitting someone should mourn, even if only for an hour or so. lol

Oh Gerry, if something happened to you, I'd most definitely cry!

BTW:  Do you have any passages to share on the subject?  I really need to figure this one out seriously.

That doesn't make any sense to me.

Who cares what happens to your body after you're dead?

I'm starting a thread about this in the Catholic Forum...

Don't worry, Tyler, if you weren't dead before you went to the undertaker's, you would be when they're all done with you.

To anyone who wishes to have their ashes scattered in a favorite spot...  better clear it now, because the officials are getting very fussy about where anything is scattered!! :p

I would take the extra step to make sure others know what you want done with your ashes. Do not tell anyone you don't care what's done with them or they could end up in the last place you would have wanted them. :(

I don't think it matters what happens to our earthly bodies when we recieve eternal life. But what's done with them can have an affect on those who we have left behind. Especially if your ashes are scattered someplace that they never should have been. Speaking both legally and morally.
