. They redefined a definition that was originally very loose . The moon and large asteroids like Ceres were also once considered to be planets . The scientific community realized that they needed a better definition of planet . They just tightened up the definition to include only bodies that could clear their lanes gravitationally and neither the moon Ceres nor Pluto met the new criteria

Why did they do it clandestinely then?

If the facts were so obvious, you'd think they would stand on their own merits.

This was an astronomers only club because laymen wouldn’t have been knowledgeable about the various aspects of how planets form their behavior, and why they are planets . I mean, so what? Pluto was not harmed or changed and neither was I.

On the other hand, the "cdesign proponentsists fiasco" was about foiling a plot by radical Calvinists to impose a totalitarian theocracy on the US.
