If you could grab any players/vocalists from any band, and bring them together to form the ultimate ELITE band, who would you choose? my choice would be

Drums; Mike Portnoy (Dream theater) Voted most innovative, and prog metal drummer in the world, by DRUM! magazine - 5 years in a row
Percussion; Lance Garvin (Living Sacrifice)
Specializes in percussion for dark/death metal bands
Guitar; Micheal Romeo (Symphony X) Educated in classical theory; bach, mozart, beethoven, vivaldi
2nd Guitar; John Petrucci (Dream Theater) Voted best Prog metal guitarist 3 years in a row
Bassist; Marco Hietala
(Nightiwsh) Insanely quick fingers, original basslines
Keyboards; Micheal Pinella (symphony X)
Played classical music since the age of 3 - can play Semi quavers are 210bpm for a very long time.
Female Vocals 1; Tarja Turunen (Nighwish) Her voice is what some opera singers would consider "Perfect":)
Female Vocals 2; Amy lee (Evanescence) A good balance between opera and contemperary singing. And shes just hot.
Male Screaming ;
Bruce Fitzhugh (Living Sacrifice) The loudest, most effective screamer you'll ever hear. Audible, too.:D
Male vocals ; Russel Allen (symphony X) Male voice with a range of about 3 1/2 Octaves. Stunning rock singer

This is the best band in the world. Simple. Insanely fast rhythm sections, contrasted with the slow melodic female harmonies. The constant tunes of famous Overtures and Sonata's fused with the dark screams of death and speed metal. The perfect balance:thumbsup: . anyone elses opinions???

Male cleans and growls: Mikeal Akerfeldt (Opeth, ex-Bloodbath)
Female cleans and screams: Lucia Cifarelli (KMFDM, ex-Drill, she also has her own solo stuff)
Female operatic vocals: Sarah Jezebel Deva (she does backings for alot of bands most notably Cradle Of Filth, her voice is jaw dropping)
Drums: Tomas Corn (Lykathea Aflame, Despise, Solfernus, Sinnonence.)(Okay, so that was when Lykathea Aflame was called Lykathea Aflame, they now go by Lykathé and are a one man project which only consists of their vocalist Ptoe) (Most people would have said Portnoy, and I didn't. You know why? Because Tomas Corn is far better than Portnoy could ever be. He is far faster and far more technical, not to mention his brutal style fits better with my uber metal line up. My second choice would have been Flo Mournier from Cryptopsy, he's a bit less technical but good at being super brutal and fast anyway.)
Lead Guitar 1: Steve Vai
Lead Guitar 2: Chuck Schuldiner (Death)
Rhythm Guitar:Oystein "Euronymous" Aarseth (Mayhem)
Bass:Steve DiGiorgio (ex-alot of bands but this guy rules, period.)
Piano: Dust (How Like A Winter)
Violin: Agony (How Like A Winter)
Atmospheric keyboards: Ehsan Kalantarpour (Slumber)
Fast keyboard soloey stuff: Janne Warmen (Children Of Bodom, Warmen) (Warmen is where his work actually stands out, COB's solos are more Alexi Laiho based)

Sound wise it'd be the perfect blend of doomy sombre atmospheres, classical arrangements, angry death metal, and a pinch of operatic vocals all wrapped up in a progressive metal shell. Big epic songs written in great detail that run gummet on talent and emotion while balancing itself out to sound like something never heard before. Yes, it would indeed be the best band ever.

Assorted drums & percussion: Billy Martin (MMW), Matt Chamberlain (Critters Buggin'), Trilok Gurtu, Le Quan Ninh
Basses, Chapman Stick: Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, etc.)
Guitars/gliss/synths: Steve Hillage (Gong/System 7), Robert Rich
Synths/Electronics: Simon Posford (Shpongle), Thighpaulsandra
Voice: David Hykes (Harmonic Choir)
Engineering, Production, etc.: Bill Laswell, John McEntire (Tortoise)

That's it for now: Multiple layers of dark ambient textures, pulsating sequences, ethereal melodic lines and deep mutating grooves...

Drummer - Chad from Live
Bass - whoever Live's bass player is
Guitar 1 - Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam)
Guitar 2 - Kurt Cobain (Nirvana, duh)
Vox Male - Maynard James Keenan (Tool)
Vox/Piano Female - Norah Jones

Then add some various violen/cello players and we're all good... we'd probably end up with Maynard screaming over some ragtime music with guitar noise in the background... but it would be neat.

But seriously now:

Lead guitar 1: Isahn (Emperor, schooled in classical theory, brilliant composer, just listen to the cd's IX Equilibium and Prometheus; The discipline of fire and demise from Emperor, he composes both of them by himself, all instruments)
Lead guitar 2: Jon Nödtveidt (Dissection, just listen to the guitar work on the cd Storm of the lights bane)
Rythm guitar: Euronymous (Mayhem, RIP)
Bass player: Glen Benton (Deicide, not sure if he's best choise, but I saw them live, and I had to look closely to see wether he was playing lead guitar or bass, so insanely fast)
Drummer: Hellhammer (Mayhem/Antestor/Covenant/The Kovanent/Immortal + 10 or so more :p Very fast and technical)
Synths: Morfeus (Limbonic Art)
Female vocals: Tarja Turunen (Nightwish)
Male clean/operatic vocals: Vortex (Dimmu Borgir, just listen to his clean vox on the songs Kings of carnival creation and Progenies of the great apocolipse)

This would be about it for the best black/dark metal band I think, have no idea how they would work together though :p
