  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Crawling

When do babies usually start crawling? I've been reading some baby websites that say that by 23 weeks, your baby will be crawling everywhere! I personally haven't heard of 5 month olds crawling, no less "everywhere" successfully. My baby bro. is 6 months old and isn't crawling yet, though he's showing signs of it and has developed early in most all areas. I think most babies start crawling around 7-10 months, so why do all these websites say they should be crawling by two months, be able to say 'unfortunate cataclysmic event' by the time their 4 months old and be able to run marathons with you by the time they're 6 months?

My niece is like 17 months old and can't say "mama", but can say just about every other word in the book, but her therapist is all, "I'm worried because she should be able to say mama by now." What? She can said juice, giraffe, snacks, dada, please, etc.

It's crazy how we even have standards for babies. Haha, my brother is on my lap and he just picked up my iPod and dropped it on the ground. ^_^

WDYT?

All babies are different, don't worry much about what the books and websites say. Mine didn't crawl until late 9 months and that was only for a week and then he started walking. Some never crawl and go straight to walking, some crawl at 6 months and take forever to start walking. It really is different for each baby.

Yep, all babies are different. I've known some to scoot instead of crawl, some to act like marines in training and not really crawl but drag themselves around.. and others whose older siblings doted on them so much that they skipped the crawling and moved to pulling up.

Each kid develops a little differently, some faster, some at a median range and others slower. As long as they do crawl and then move from there to standing and pulling up and toddling by about month 10, you're doing great!

Crawling isn't even considered a necessary developmental milestone because so many babies never learn to crawl. Some friends of ours have a perfectly normal kid who did a butt scooting thing instead of crawling. He was so proficent at it that he preferred it to learning to walk. As a result, he didn't walk until he was almost 20 months old:eek:

My son started crawling at about 4 1/2 months, and crawling WELL at 5 months. He definitely WAS getting into EVERYTHING - pulling himself up on the couch, pulling books off the shelves, getting into drawers, etc. He took his first steps at 7 months but wasn't walking WELL until 10 months. It really does vary depending on the kid and the parents. My neighbor's son did not walk until 16 months. Those websites are generally a good guideline, but definitely not always the rule.

ds was 5 months when he was crawling, but he would go backwards because his arms were stronger than his legs, so he did this backward crawl. It took him until 6 months to work out how to go forwards ROFL.

Dd commando (on tummy pushing around) crawled at 10 months, then hands and knees at 11 months. She walked at 18 months but she has "knock knee" and a "turned in foot" so she has walking problems. Ds walked at 11 months.

Also your neice sounds like she is doing really well with her speech.

Be aware she may never say "mama" at all. If she has another word to use instead of "mama" then that is what she will use.

People were surprised when my dd started saying "thank you" instead of "ta" she has never said "ta" at all.
