  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Cravings, anyone?

I am so sorry for posting my opinion - I would paste the link where I got my info - but don't have enough time in the room ... it's ivillage, though, and addresses sweets. I can see though, that having three children and being 40 years old leaves me quite naive in the area of pregnancy and parenting ... so I will refrain from posting my opinions in the future. My sincere apologies to Kristy and saved.

I'm so sorry if I sounded like I was being mean. I was trying to soften my comments by using the smiley face at the bottom of my post, but apparently I didn't succeed.

The only reason I said anything at all was that this is something that I have heard/read in many different places, and has been around for years. It's one of those things that is stated as fact, and that people don't even think to question. Because of this, I worry that women might give in to cravings they are probably better off avoiding. I just wanted people to know that there is another side to it.

I was in no way questioning your parenting/pregnancy experience, simply the wisdom behind this very popular theory, that most people here have probably heard, and many probably believe. I expect I'm in the minority here in expresing this alternative opinion, given how widespread the other is :)

I don't want you to feel like you can't post your ideas/opinions/links to articles/etc. Again, sorry if I sounded harsh, I really wasn't intending to come across that way.

God Bless.

Kristy

you didn't sound harsh ... and the article i read was on ivillage - a study done - quoted by an alleged expert. And, the reason I believe that is because when I went through a divorce in 1999, I craved chocolate like crazy. Before that time, I hated chocolate - and to this day, I still won't eat chocolate cake - ice cream - cookies, etc. But, I developed a taste for pure chocolate before I learned that it is a natural anti-depressant ... strange that i craved it at the exact same time i was going through a life crisis. It's also been proven that fat plays a major role in fetal development. I'm not talking the kind of fat intake that makes you obese ... but if you aren't getting enough, you're probably going to crave fatty foods ... and so on ... It doesn't matter. I gave up cigarettes when i learned i was pregnant - and i'm a little testy. Hopefully it will be over soon.

Actually, my doctor (as well as my Prenatal Dietian) said yesterday, that Your body does crave what it thinks needs or feel it hasn't gotten enough of. He said that if it doesn't look healthy to find away to make that craving healthy.

That I need to be mindful and find healthy alternatives for the sugary items it might crave and go with a natural sugar like apples, bananas...

If I want french fries to just instead going out and getting em to slice some up put olive oil on em and pop em in the oven and bake them instead.

I seem to always go with the items that my body refuses to want to eat first. Then cravings start a little later.

Right away last time I didn't want ANY juices. I live off juice, so I made lemon water and all sorts of extracts to put in them to put in the water . I had massive cravings for Strawberry Sorbet (In fact, at the u/s when we were talking about my prenatal diet to my doctor and going over what the dietian and I talked about.. he exlaimed "OH Sugar this time wont be a problem , she doesn't want anything to do with it . UNLIKE THE BOAT LOADS of Sorbet she ate last time." )

This time I can't stand any processed sugarly stuff (I have a box of 40 jellybellies that I haven't touched in weeks. ). And I am craving OJ like crazy! (And normally I advoid it unless it has sprite in it, to nutarlize the acid ) . I hope that I start craving something I like.
