cant remember the exact temp on my processor..somewhere around 35c i think, it says it while my pc is booting. but the gage on my tower says my current temp inside the case is just below 86f, and thats about 30c right? i'm not good with conversions..and thats with my fans running at 60% of full capacity.

61c is a bit hot, but it should still work. 70c tends to be the damage cut off temp for motherboards and components. If your case ambient temp is reasonable <40c, you should get a better CPU cooler (I like Zalman 'flower' style coolers). If your ambient is warm you should improve the airflow of the case, then see how your cpu does.

I've got a serious case airflow problem on my new Dual Opteron. The CPUs report 40-45c, which is fine. But one of the controller chips on the motherboard gets up to 70c and then locks up the computer. My graphics card fan is dumping exhaust air directly onto this controller chip. Looks like it's time to upgrade my graphics card cooler.

Is it an nForce Pro chipset that you're running?

If you can afford a dual Opteron, you can probably afford water cooling.

Yeah, it's the Tyan Thunder K8WE Motherboard. There's no room for water cooling on the overheating chip. This is an SLI motherboard and I have two GeForce 7800GTXs. The nForce 2050 chip sits right between the two PCIe x16 slots. The Lower graphics card actually touches the 2050 heatsink while the upper graphics card dumps exhaust directly onto the 2050. It's a really bad motherboard design. My ambient case temp is reporting 26c, but when I stick a thermistor between the fins of the 2050 heatsink, the temp is really high. I've put in high cfm fans and it keeps the machine from crashing, but it's really noisy. I think I'm going to try a zalman vga cooler on the top graphics card, this should dump the exhaust in a less directed way.

For a school project we once coated a mother board in flooring wax, and diped the entire motherboard in water. Then hooked that up to a cooler on a water fountain. The entire system stayed under 70F. We did fry several motherboards before getting it right, so I wouldnt reccomend it.

lol, nice. I read an article online where some people were comparing an AMD and P4 CPU. The AMD was an FX-55 at 2.6 GHz, the P4 was one of the top P4s at like 3.6 GHz. They tried to overclock the P4 until it matched the AMD in benchmarks. They had to put the P4 on phase-change cooling to keep it from frying, because they had to take the P4 up to 5.2 GHz before it beat the AMD in most of the tests. Now that's some extreme cooling.

Hmm. Don't rule out a duct.

i have a stock fan-cooler, BUT! when i do build my custom PC, you can bet it'll have a liquid cooling system

id love to have the confidence to put water cooling in mine but i dont wanna risk £800 worth of kit because of a poor connection at the various cooler units. if i was into SERIOUS overcloking or had a very poor case i would consider it but the airflow is good in my case so im not worried by it.

thats insane!
if i had the money i would get one in an instant - thankfully i have one of the cheaper 64 bit models though
although id be tempted to go for a dual core system if i was to build a new computer with money being no object because THAT is the future!

The Koolance models have gotten very good reviews and the base kits costs $350 plus the costs of the cooling blocks. You should be able to cool your whole system for less than $550.
