So, I finally started my first semester of college this past year, and during Thanksgiving break, I decided not to come back. I was failing miserably, and me and my wife needed money. I feel so ashamed for not even being able to last a semester. I mean, I would study for hours only to get a F or if I was lucky, a C on my tests. My whole time at college I only managed 1 A. I guess I'm just not cut out to be a pastor.

Which classes were you taking?

Also note that the quality of your professors are a key factor as well. A bad professor will naturally hinder you from revealing your full potential in an academic setting. Plus you are married and finances were an issue--this could of brought stress.

Dont be discouraged buddy. If it was easy, everyone would do it. You really have to work at things. If you truly want to be a pastor, keep working at it. Ask God for the strength to continue this battle and get back in that classroom.

What kind of subjects did you have that you would be studying on and still getting bad grades? Maybe it's your study habits. I used to study by reading the material, meanwhile had my AOL chats, MSN chats, music playing.. that kind of stuff going on. Then I would get bad grades and say.. Well, I studied!!

Research on methods of studying. You'll find that not everyone can study the same. You may need to revisit the way you learn material. Some people are information/text based learners, some are audio learners, some are visual learners.. Find YOUR way. :D

Most of all, dont lose hope. If you keep the drive and ambition burning in you, there is no stopping you. Find a way, pray about it, ask for help. Do what you can to get where you want.

With God, all things are possible. :amen:

Best of luck to you!

Don't get stressed over it. God put the desire to be a pastor in you and not in the college. You should rightfully laugh at the instituation for failing you and smile broadly.

You have a lot of time to become a pastor, and you will be amazing, like any other pastor. I promise it.

Never give up, failing is an opporunity to find a new avenue to for success. Which means... Try again!

It might not have been the right college for you, the one you were attending. I've been to a few colleges, and I've done better where I've felt the most comfortable. Maybe it might be a good idea to look at other colleges, and continue with your studies elsewhere? The community college I went to for a year to get my grades up... well, it didn't work out for me at all. I didn't like it there very much, and I didn't know anyone and was generally angry at myself for needing to go to a community college to get my grades up in the first place, so I didn't do very well at all.

I completely agree with all the other replies. There are many reasons why you may hae not been doing well. It could have just been not the right time for you either. NEVER give up... I would try again... trust God to help you through your next semester whenever it may be. I wish you the best of luck!

Please don't give up!!!! I started college back in 2004 at a school in Virginia, I was a broadcast journalism major but I ended up dropping out midway through first semester...I felt like such a failure! However I did not give up...I enrolled in school back home that next semester, changed my major numerous times, and now 3 years later, I'm a journalism major at another school...every school is not a great fit, don't let it get you down! Be encouraged, I do know what you're going through! Hang in there and try again!

We all do bad on tests! Some learn it a lot easier then others. When one way doesn't work try it another. Get some advice, go to your counselor. I bet its hard with a family to care for. Don't get discourage! Try again :)

Remember, we are here to pray for you and I'm not leaving any time soon. Post your frustrations, let us help you get through it :)

I got all C's in my first semester of college because I was dealing with multiple issues (healing from a car wreck, grieving over a loved one that died days before school started, etc). I think I withdrew from a class in my first semester, too, but I can't remember. I didn't do that well in my next semester, either, because I was hospitalized so I got withdrawn from two classes and had incompletes on the other two (I did manage to get B's in those two however). Every semester got a little better and eventually I figured out how to manage my time, how to study better, and how to pick out teachers that would be the best fit for me. Now I've been getting straight A's for the past two years.

I think most people don't do their best in the first semester of college. However, persistence will pay off. You can get the hang of it.

Some tips:

*Make notecards to study with
*Read a little bit of your assignments every day - don't cram for tests at the last minute!
*Work on homework well in advance of the due date and do it in small parts instead of all at once
*See if your textbook has a "companion website" -- a lot of textbooks do have those now. They usually have chapter by chapter study tools like flashcards, quizzes, and so on.
*Rewrite your notes
*Look up professors on ratemyprofessor.com to find out who's the best and who's the worst.
*Don't take a ton of classes at first because that can be overwhelming when you're new to college. Just take 1-3 classes and allow yourself to get the hang of it.

I did much worse than her, and I'm still in the game. But my problems were all my fault. I wasn't ready for college.
