• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi Everyone

Would you please say a prayer for me been having a very hard time with OCD blashemous thoughts and concentrating feeling I need to pray a particular way or prayer is invalid. Worrying my heart is bad, questioning my sincerity and if I repented properly or even meant it. When things are bad I confess thoughts over and over. I am sure things will get better. Could people please share strategies they use that help. Thank you. I think the most frustrating thing is that it has been robbing me enjoyment of life. I am sure things will improve I will not give up. Thanks everyone

I have also wrestled with the "have I repented properly? Did I mean it? Was I sorry enough for my sins? Did I just commit the unpardonable sin?" thoughts. What helped me was realizing that Jesus repented perfectly for me. Remember when John the Baptist declared of Jesus "behold the lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world"? Then Jesus told John to Baptize Him. But John said why should I baptize you I am the one in need of baptism Lord? "And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him." - Matthew 3:15. So realize that when you repented (no matter how imperfect it was) by turning to Jesus for salvation, in Him your repentance is perfect. Also no one has perfect faith that is why Jesus said all it takes is a mustard seed of faith. Remember the man who said "Lord I believe, help my unbelief!" That is what we OCDers are like. Especially Pure OCDers and Scrupulosity ppl. You are saved by grace. Rest in it.

Just focusing on those truths I mentioned and others like it in Scripture is what helps me the best. And when a crazy blasphemous or violent or sexual intrusive thought tried to rear it's ugly head, I just laugh at it in a way that tells my brain how silly it is and it's not what I believe or want. I also just thank Jesus this way "thank you Lord for saving me and I am saved in you no matter what goes through my mind intrusively or what my obsessive feelings want to do to me". Overtime you train your brain and your emotion to think truthfully and Scripturely about your reality in Christ.

I posted this in a previous thread but it's true.
The problem with Scrupulosity is that it makes you question EVERYTHING. Your motives, your thoughts, your feelings, your faith.
No one can live up to that kind of scrutiny. If you constantly question every thought, action, feeling then of course you are going to find fault! We are not perfect.

In my case I was living in constant fear and misery from blasphemous thoughts. Then one day the fear eased but then I felt guilty that I wasn't scared anymore so that must mean that I enjoy/want the thoughts!
See what I mean? You cant win with scrupe...

My advice is to repent anyway, even if it doesn't feel genuine.
Then I pray on the fact that my repentance doesn't feel genuine and ask god to soften my heart if there is not any genuine remorse there.
Keep yourself busy and distracted and remember that the lord will never leave or forsake you.

lynsdeyb is absolutely right. But I would add that we are truly saved Christians. We are just truly saved Christians with Scrupe. But once we are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone there is nothing and no one that is able to take us out of His hand. Not even our Scrupulosity or Pure OCD or any other anxiety disorder. Also we do not stay saved or find salvation in trying our hardest to fight against our Scrupe. The anxious intrusive obsessive pop up thoughts that come from Scrupe are not purposeful sin to repent of. They are part of our sinful flesh, yes, but they are unwanted thoughts so they are not who you truly are or what you have truly done. Rest in Jesus.
