Could Jesus really have come down from the cross, if He wanted to?

Just interested to see what your thinking is regarding hypotheticals in general...

...could Jesus have come down from the cross, if He had wanted to?

You say "not directly"? But would you say "not even indirectly"?

For example, if Jesus had recanted His faith, would they not have let Him down?

I know I'm spoiling the experiment by leading your thinking a little, but I didn't want to leave you with nothing to go on, either.:cool:

Yes, Jesus said so himself.

Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?” (Matthew 26:53-54)

But if you are speaking about the Romans letting him down then I feel that would be unlikely. To them he was just another Jew sentenced to death and they wouldn't really care about what he said.

So He could have, but didn't.

Am I getting your summary here?

He would not have even considered it, as it was more important to Jesus Christ, to do his Father will than his own.

Faithful adherence to God’s laws would demonstrate beyond doubt that Adam could have made the same choice.

Jesus’ faithfulness would expose as entirely false Satan’s assertion that humans under test would not willingly and faithfully serve God

Was it not an enormous responsibility that rested on Jesus’ shoulders!

His Father’s name, universal peace, and the salvation of the human family all depended on Jesus’ faithfulness.

Realizing this, he prayed: “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me. Yet, not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39)

Even under the severest stress, Jesus never faltered in his willingness to submit to his Father’s will.

No thought of compromise would have entered Jesus Christ's head.

He's supposed to be an all-powerful God. Therefore he can do whatever he wants.

No the Son of God there is a difference, he had a mission to complete for his Father, and that was to pay the Ransom Sacrifice for the whole of mankind.

Who anointed Jesus?

How did he sit at his own right hand?

Who was he always praying too?

Who raised him from the dead?

Are these silly questions?

From what I've read, according to the Christian bible, Jesus is both the son of god, and god himself.

Is this not true?

What Bible gives you that impression, just think for yourself

The Trinity — A Mystery

Those who teach the doctrine of the "trinity" claim that it is a "mystery." They claim that the Father is God, the Son is God and the Holy Spirit is also God. How they can be three separate persons is something they can't explain, yet they insist that any who want to be saved must accept this by faith because this is a mystery beyond our comprehension.

Could there be a reason they label it a mystery?

Luke 1:36 says that Mary and Elizabeth are cousins and that John is six months older than Jesus. This makes John and Jesus second cousins.

Luke 3:23 says Jesus was 30 years old when he was baptised by John. Here's where the mystery begins.

The trinity teachers claim that Jesus is God. This immediately makes John God's second cousin and makes John six months older than God! And man was here on earth 4,000 years before God was born.

This is ridiculous but it gets better when you read Luke 3:21 and 23. John had the unspeakable privilege of baptizing his creator who was also his second cousin. The incredible thing is that John was six months old before his Creator was born.

The trinity teachers say that the Holy Spirit is also God. So now get this — while John is standing there in the water, he sees God come down and sit on top of his own head! And this is not all, he gets a good look at God. God is now either a bird sitting on top of what looks like a man or is it the other way around?

And then he discovers that this God-bird-man is also a ventriloquist! While he stands there in disbelief, God tells a deliberate lie to the people who are watching. Obviously, he doesn't want the people to know that he is really God, so he throws his voice to make it appear like someone in heaven is speaking and saying "this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased."

This is amazing! No wonder they call it a "mystery" and let it go at that.

Or could you explain how you think Jesus could be God as well.

Yes. I can't imagine why the answer isn't obvious. If Jesus were able to walk on the waves, change water into wine, and rise from the grave, why couldn't he have done what you suggest in this case?

He was just a man. Mortal.

The idea that God would create someone who could just break the rules, is madness.

Ah, OK, so you don't believe Jesus had god powers. I thought all Christians believed Jesus had god powers, but obviously I'm wrong!

You're in a far better position to know, so could you please give me your best guess as to the percentage of Christians who believe that Jesus was mortal? Thank you.

I'm just realistic.

That's why I want to know what people think: could Jesus have just come down?

Most Christians will tell you something obscure to defend the fact that they don't really address the reality question, I doubt you could pin them to a statement that Jesus was ultimately invincible (but they would like to believe it anyway).
