Cosplay!

Does anyone else on here cosplay? I've done a few costumes here and there. My very first was Naru's christmas dress from the Love Hina Christmas special. My mom and I worked on it for several days so I could wear it for the Christmas party I was having the week before Christmas. The dress was a success, most people recognized it (I had a lot of Otaku friends, lol) and I met my first girlfriend at the party so it went well.

Here's a list of costumes I've done so far.

Rukia Kuchiki (prisoner garb) - Bleach


The Ranma and Lolita ones are for Anime Expo this year. I'm not sure I can finish the Rukia one, mostly because I'm still working on the Lolita dress.

I still have to figure out a costume for Yaoi-con this year (I'm finally old enough to go, YES!!!)
I'm thinking maybe I'll do my first crossplay, maybe Hiroshi Nakano or Eiri Yuki from Gravitation.

I love to watch Cosplay. People are so creative. I would love to Cosplay and Yourichi san and find a friend that would Cosplay as Sou Fong. I have never Participated though. I know there is a convention in texas though. I wanna go one day.

I've been to two conventions in Texas. I don't remember much about anime-fest, that was nearly 4 years ago, but A-kon was definitely a great convention last year. I didn't go this year because I now live in Arizona. Both of those are in Dallas, and my brother went to Shiokazecon in Houston a couple of years ago. I think that one was pretty good.

I used to cosplay a LOT for every anime convention, but after a while I started getting a bit creeped out by all the Inu Yashas and Narutos at every convention I went and after a while I started getting tired of having to be a different anime character so I stopped...but I still love going to cosplays!

Yes the Japanese do a better job. The ones i have seen online, lol they be on it. I so wanna g oas yourichi. Lol.

I think that's a little unfair, it looks like the author of that article just found the absolute worst cosplays of the character and used them against really awesome Japanese cosplayers.
I've been to four different conventions and while there are plenty of horrible costumes (Sailor Bubba, Man-Faye, etc.) that does not mean that all american cosplayers are bad at what they do. Another point is that some of those American costumes were actually quite good, perhaps the hair was off (Rikku) or they did not have the right body shape (Sailor Moon group) but they put a lot of work into their costumes and the fact that they are not all skinny as a stick or great at styling wigs should not disqualify that fact. I personally think the Tifa cosplayer was quite good, despite not having the same body shape as the animated or Japanese version. Japanese people as a whole are quite a skinny lot and while America could use some slimming down that doesn't detract horribly from the costumes.
