I know I should probably be posting this in the "Work & Employment" forum, but unfortunitly there's not a lot happening over there, so I hope you guys don't mind me posting it in this forum. Here goes..
Basically I've been working as a shop assistant for 19 months, I've recently found out that my boss may be liable for tax fraud as she's been lying to the tax authorities about my earnings, I guess deep down I always knew something dodgy was happening because I got paid cash in hand, no payslip, never got paid double time on Bank Holidays, Sundays etc. but I was just so grateful that I had a job and was able to support myself and help my Mother with bills and what not at home. I'm contemplating on ringing my local tax office Monday morning, but I also don't want to get her into further trouble. An' by further I mean jail time..
There was another incident that has been eaten away at me.. see in our shop we have this big cigarette machine that pays for itself, it's filled twice a week. Say you put €250 into the machine, you get €250's worth of cigarettes out of it. And it only excepts €50 notes, so we top it up as we need to. Well, my boss has been getting me and several other staff members to get on average €100 to €250 a week off these men who come down to fill our machine claiming that the money has not be registering with the bill reader but still getting sucked into the machine. This has been going on for months now, thing is not one single note has ever got sucked into the machine and not registered for me.. and I only found out two weeks ago that my boss was telling a fellow employee that X amount of money was getting sucked into the machine and hadn't registered for me which was a lie. So basically she's been using us to take back money that wasn't rightfully hers.. I waited until Monday before the cigarette machine men came down and I got a text from my boss saying they owed her €150 that hadn't registered but had gotten sucked into the machine etc.. well I told the cigarette guy that money has never gotten stuck on me, then another employee spoke up and said the same. He's since looked into it and can now see that the money he's been handing back over to my boss was never just getting sucked into the machine and not registering, so my boss owes them ALL this money now that she's been claiming was hers. ANYWAYS.. my boss has since blamed a young girl who works part-time, but only on weekends as the culprit (doesn't explain the money not registering on weekdays) should I stand up and tell the truth, even at the risk of getting fired??
Also, her brother has been taking money from the till, any solutions on how I should handle that situation? A guy has already been fired by the boss after he made "accusations" against her theiving brother.
