I'd like to make a correction to something I've been saying for some time.

I've been giving scientists credit for dividing the number of passengers on the Titanic by the number of persons-per-lifeboat and coming up with the wrong answer.

Well it turns out they divided correctly.

But they got the dividend wrong.

They used the ship's tonnage, not the number of passengers, as the dividend.

Thus, only 48 lifeboats were called for, instead of 60 that was needed.

(This 48 was pared down to 20 by administration for aesthetic reasons.)

That's the way they ascertained the number of lifeboats to have onboard back then.

Science: more legal than safe.

Scientists investigate nature, trying to figure out how nature works. Engineers design things, like all the various parts of the Titanic and its technology.

As an interesting side note, the exact claim about the Titanic's hardiness I just found:
"The February 1993 issue of The Titanic Commutator unearthed a White Star promotional flyer for the Olympic and Titanic that claimed “as far as it is possible to do, these two wonderful vessels are designed to be unsinkable.”

I've noticed that you often confuse scientists with businessmen.

Typically the scenario goes like this:

Scientists: You should do X

Businessmen: No, that will cost too much. We're going to do Y instead, it will save money.

*something bad happens*

*You blame the scientists*

Lives were lost because the Titanic sank. The blame for sinking belongs to the designers, regardless of any other blame.

The titanic would have made it's journey safely , Yahweh willing,

if the pilot had not steered into the flow of icebergs (which he had never done before in many earlier crossings of the Atlantic).

The titanic probably would have lasted a long long time

I heard the administration were all Christians, and that god had blessed the ship. In fact, the sinking of the Titanic was actually a blessing in disguise, as preacher Harper was able to share the gospel with those that were about to drown.

Why? They didn't design it to crash into icebergs.

Now had they designed it to specifically crash into icebergs and then it sank, yes, it would be their fault.
