So now we have a culture because of the corona virus doing a don't leave your house thing. I suppose there can be said to be silver linings to most things. One thing, could we be learning about the real feasibility of humans psychologically being able to stand being house bound for long periods of time as in being house bound in small living spaces on Mars forever? Some might say prisoners in jail do that but that's just it...they feel like they're in prison. Martian colonies all sound good and adventurous on paper....but do men really want to live this way?

We cannot even agree on the definition for the word "man". How can we be expected to agree on complicated concepts?

I'm one of those nutcases who thinks God intends to drive us off the planet ie. onto other planets, space stations etc.

I'm under no illusions that it would be very tough, and we wouldn't do it unless conditions on earth became horrendous. Which means that if God is going to drive us off the planet, then He must have some very unpleasant plans in mind. Here's hoping He hasn't.

I think learning to teleport will be a part of it, but that's down the track obviously.

In the long run though, I think someone will have to live on Mars, and they can tell us all about it.

I don't think being socially isolated for a few days or even weeks, with in most cases all the mod cons still operating, the trees outside, the blue sky, the birds singing, the dogs barking and with several modes of in-house entertainment available would be any sort of real preparation for the stresses of living on a planet like Mars.

Why would you say a nutcase. The basic vision many have hope for the future is that man will live on other planets, somehow, someway.

Well we do know now the basic science of Mars. It's atmosphere, gravity, and temperature range so it's not a mystery to us what it'd take to survive. I see man perhaps going there once or twice just to say we've done it but then forsaking it forever. As my OP stated the psychological pressure of being so isolated 6 month away from help....can't see it working. It might seem adventurous while on the Earth thinking about it BUT after sitting in a very small cubicle of living space as it would be on Mars it would finally click in to many the question, "Oh no! What have I done! I'm basically a prisoner here locked up in a cell!" If people with the Corona stay at home thing have a hard time with it it'd be a thousand times worse on Mars.

Is that just travel time? I have a hard time seeing them raising the money and getting through the red tape to build, load and launch a rocket every time it's needed. That lifetime prison sentence turns into a death sentence when the economy on Earth goes down.
