• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

and what is wrong by using logic and your own brain to look these things up?

my my! we are getting lazy ;)

though its good idea to find those really obscure stars :D

Little kids first learning
Amatures that want to learn quickly & see the "good" objects :)
The Lazy :D
Amatures, that have a had time learning, or are just starting.

and Teachers, wanting to show students quickly specific objects. I.E. a new photo from the Hubble comes out, punch in the object name into the scope. and let it guide you to the correct area to look.

Yes yes, but along side that. weve all done pretty fine without it. i think its usually best to teach the kids and amatures the old fashioned way then they use that - just like i learned science - we learned the older concepts first before moving the new ones.

The SkyScout

Point it at a star, and it give you the info of the star your looking at.
Aww that just takes all the fun out of it!

Seriously though, if you have $400 to spend, and want to learn more about the stars, then I would actually recommend it! Astronomy is first and foremost about having fun (at least the amatuer part of it).

I'll give it this, it's definitely portable! More so than a $400 refractor (which I would also recommend looking into). Looks like you could take that thing just about anywhere.
