  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

When we talk about the witness in our verse,
we talk about you.
A pure heart and a noble demeanor
cannot compete with your radiant face.
They will ask you
what you have produced?
Say to them,
except for Love,
what else can a Lover produce?

"The world stands out on either side
No wider than the heart is wide;
Above the world is stretched the sky,---
No higher than the soul is high.
The heart can push the sea and land
Far away on either hand;
The soul can split the sky in two,
And let the face of God shine through."
Edna St.Vincent Millay

"If days grow dark, if care and pain
Press close and sharp on heart and brain,
Then lovely pictures still shall bloom
Upon the walls of memories room."
Dickenson

Here are some of my favs: :D

"Unity must be ordered according to God’s Word, or else it be better war than peace"
- Reformation Martyr Hugh Latimer

"Therefore let God-inspired Scripture decide between us; and on whichever side be found doctrines in harmony with the word of God, in favour of that side will be cast the vote of truth."
- Basil of Caesarea

"When a man stops believing in God, he does not believe in nothing, he believes in anything."
"Christianity has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult and left untried."
"Tolerance is the highest virtue for those who have no others."
- G.K. Chesterton

God is looking for those with whom He can do the impossible--what a pity that we plan only the things that we can do by ourselves.
- A.W.Tozer

“There are three points of doctrine the belief of which forms the foundation of all morality. The first is the existence of God; the second is the immortality of the human soul; and the third is a future state of rewards and punishments. Suppose it possible for a man to disbelieve either of these three articles of faith and that man will have no conscience, he will have no other law than that of the tiger or the shark. The laws of man may bind him in chains or may put him to death, but they never can make him wise, virtuous, or happy.”
- John Quincy Adams, Letters of John Quincy Adams to His Son on the Bible and Its Teachings (Auburn: James M. Alden, 1850), pp. 22-23.)

"A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic--on the level of a man who says he is a poached egg--or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse."
"I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else."
- C.S. Lewis

"This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being"
- Sir Isaac Newton

"The more I study nature, the more I stand amazed at the work of the Creator"
- Louis Pasteur

"As a Christian who is also a professional scientist, I exult in the reality that "in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth" (Ex. 20:11). May He forever be praised."
- John Baumgardner

"I dont have enough faith to be an atheist"
- Steve Brady

An atheist is one who hopes the Lord will do nothing to disturb his disbelief.
- Franklin P. Jones

"Christianity is - must be totally committed to the special creation as described in Genesis, and Christianity must fight with its full might, fair or foul against the theory of evolution."
"Christianity has fought, still fights, and will continue to fight science to the desperate end over evolution, because evolution destroys utterly and finally the very reason Jesus’ earthly life was supposedly made necessary. Destroy Adam and Eve and the original sin, and in the rubble you will find the sorry remains of the Son of God. If Jesus was not the Redeemer who died for our sins, and this is what evolution means, then Christianity is nothing.’
G. Richard Bozarth, ‘The Meaning of Evolution’, American Atheist, p. 30. 20 September 1979.

The gift of LIFE is pain and sickness, but the gift of DEATH is eternal life with our God.
How can you celebrate life and mourn death.
A little backwards??? *THINK ABOUT IT*
Gothic Christian's Quote

"Hell is truth seen too late."
- H. W. Adams

*** "I think the most awful torment that can come to a lost soul in the pit of woe will be to think of days gone by, to remember mercies rejected, to meditate upon grace despised, and cry in anguish of soul, 'Jesus died for me, and I knew all about it; He shed His precious blood for sinners, and I heard about it over and over again; He died for me, and I rejected Him; I rejected His mercy, and here I am shut away from the light and joy of God for all eternity, and it is my own fault. I might have been saved; I might have been washed from my sins; but I refused to trust the Saviour that God provided, and now His wrath rests upon me forever!' I cannot imagine anything worse than that; and that, as I understand it, will be the very essence of the torment that lost men and women must endure for eternity." (Ironside: Addresses on the Epistle of St. John, pp. 175-176).
- Dr. Harry Ironside comments on the judgment of the lost in hell ***

Some "funnies" :

When you put 'THE' and 'IRS' together, it forms 'THEIRS'. Coincidence? I think not?

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Since light travels faster than sound, isn't that why some people appear bright until you hear them speak?

OK, that's a few from the numerous ones i've collected over the years - enjoy, and LEARN from them ;)

A poem from WWI:

In Memoriam

Private D. Sutherland killed in action in the German trench, May 16th, 1916, and the others who died.

So you were David's father,
And he was your only son,
And the new-cut peats are rotting
And the work is left undone,
Because of an old man weeping,
Just an old man in pain,
For David, his son David,
That will not come again.

Oh, the letters he wrote you,
And I can see them still,
Not a word of the fighting
But just the sheep on the hill
and how you should get the crops in
Ere the year get stormier,
And the Bosches have got his body,
And I was his officer.

You were only David's father,
But I had fifty sons
When we went up in the evening
Under the arch of the guns,
And we came back at twilight--
O God! I heard them call
To me for help and pity
That could not help at all.

Oh, never will I forget you,
My men that trusted me,
More my sons than your fathers',
For they could only see
The little helpless babies
And the young men in their pride.
They could not see you dying,
And hold you while you died.

Happy and young and gallant,
They saw their first-born go,
But not the strong limbs broken
And the beautiful men brought low,
The piteous writhing bodies,
They screamed, "Don't leave me, sir,"
For they were only your fathers
But I was your officer.

"I have no need to see and test in order to be set free. I am free even in the confusion of servitude. I enjoy the freedom of the future, generations in advance. And when I die, I shall die a free man, for here I have fought for freedom my whole life long."*
---Nikos Kazantzakis, "Freedom and Death"

"Metaphorically, freedom in its essence is the acceptance of the chains which suit you and for which you are suited, and the harness in which you pull towards a end chosen and valued by yourself, and not imposed. It is not, and never can be, the absence of restrictions, obligations or law and of duty."*

---Bronislaw Malinowski

"Freedom is a positive force...flowing up from a spring of boundless depth. Freedom is the power to create out of nothing, the power of the spirit to create out of itself."*

---Nikolai Berdyayev

"The goal of fasting is inner unity. This means hearing but not with the ear; hearing, but not with the understanding; it is hearing with the spirit, with your whole being. The hearing with the ears is one thing. The hearing with the understanding is another. But the hearing of the spirit is not limited to any one faculty, to the ear, or to the mind. Hence, it demands the emptiness of all the facilities. And when the faculties are empty: the whole being listens. There is a direct grasp of what is right before you that can never be heard with the ear or understood with the mind. Fasting of the heart empties the faculties, frees you from limitations and preoccupations."*

---Thomas Merton, "The Living Bread"

"How can a healthy adult be so tired at the end of the day when a bird weighing under an ounce can fly nonstop across the Gulf of Mexico?"

Edwin Pope, "Miami Herald"

Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out."
James Bryant Conant

Want to hear God laugh? Tell Him your plans.

If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.
Winston Churchill, Sir

Hegel was right when he said that we learn from history that man can never learn anything from history.
George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950)

If you are all wrapped up in yourself, you are overdressed

A fav poem which tells me that the mind can only take you so far.

Frederick Goddard Tuckerman

"Sonnet XXVIII"

Not the round natural world, not the deep mind,
The reconcilement holds: the blue abyss
Collects it not; our arrows sink amiss
And but in Him may we our import find.
The agony to know, the grief, the bliss
Of toil, is vain and vain: clots of the sod
Gathered in heat and haste and flung behind
To blind ourselves and others, what but this
Still grasping dust and sowing toward the wind?
No more thy meaning seek, thine anguish plead,
But leave straining thought and stammering word,
Across the barren azure pass to God:
Shooting the void in silence like a bird,
A bird that shuts his wings for better speed.

USING EMPTINESS

If the greatest achievement is incomplete
Then it usefulness in unimpaired.
If the greatest fullness is empty,
Then its usefulness in unexhaustible.

The greatest directness is flexible.
The greatest skillfulness is awkward.
The greatest eloquence is hesitant.

Agitation triumphs over the cold.
Stillness triumphs over the heated.
Clarity and stillness brings order to the world."

Lao Tze

USING POLARITY

When all the World knows Beauty as Beauty,
There is ugliness.
When all the World knows good as good,
There is evil.

In this way
Existence and nonexistence produce each other,
Difficult and easy complete each other,
Long and short contrast each other,
High and low attract each other,
Pitch and tune harmonize each other.

Therefore, Intelligent Individuals:
Hold their position without effort,
Practice their philosophy without words,
Are a part of all things and overlook nothing,
They produce---but do not possess,
Act without expectation, Succeed without taking credit.

Since, indeed, they do no take credit,
It remains with them.

Lao Tze

"I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also;
I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also."
I Cor.14:15

"There are celestial bodies and there are terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory." I Cor.15:40

" For consider your call, brethren; not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth; but God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong, God chose what is low and despised in the world, even the things that are not, to bring to nothing the things that are so no human being can boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, whom God made our wisdom, our righteousness and sactification and redemption; therefore, as it is written, "Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord." I Cor. 1: 26-31

"He made my mouth like a sharp sword,
in the shadow of his hand he hid me;
he made me a polished arrow,
in his quiver he hid me away."
Isaiah 49: 2

ways to reduce stress

1. At lunchtime, sit in your parked car with sunglasses on and point a Hair dryer at passing cars. See if they slow down.

2. Page yourself over the intercom. Don't disguise your voice.

3. Every time someone asks you to do something, ask if they want fries with that.

4. Put your garbage can on your desk and label it "in"

5. Put decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has gotten over their caffeine addictions, switch to espresso.

6. Finish all your sentences with "in accordance with the prophecy.”

7. Don't use any punctuation marks

8. As often as possible, skip rather than walk.

9. Ask people what sex they are. Laugh hysterically after they answer.

10. Specify that your drive-through order is "to go”.

11. Sing along at the opera.

12. Go to a poetry recital and ask why .the poems don't rhyme.

13. Put mosquito netting around your work area. Play a tape of jungle sounds all day.

14. Five days in advance, tell your friends you can't attend their party because you're not in the mood.

15. Have your coworkers address you by your wrestling name, Rock Hard Kim.

16. When the money comes out the A TM, scream, "I won! I won!, 3rd time this week!!!!!"

17. When leaving the zoo, start running towards the parking lot, yelling, “run for your lives, they're loose!!"

18. Tell your children over dinner. "Due to the economy, we are going to have to let one of you go."
