  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Most importantly, listen first. Listen carefully to what questions he needs answered before he will be moved to change his denomination. Seek to give God the glory at all times and be thankful that his decision is not one of believing in God or not, but simply a matter of his preferred people to associate with in his belief in God. :)

I have recently been approached by a friend whom is protestant. He is interested in converting to Catholicism. I believe God is asking me to help him. I need some advise as to what to say and do. I have been praying and reading scripture.

God Bless you all.

Since you are Catholic, may wish to visit the Catholic forum, here at this link. They will be pleased to help you with these issues:

One Bread, One Body

To answer your question, if I were in your position, I would ask the friend if he would be willing to meet with your priest. Then help set up the appointment and allow the priest to direct this person in any spiritual matters.

I will also send a heads up to other Catholic posters to let them know you are here asking this question. God bless you.

And may God bless your friend abundantly. I will pray for you and for him.

Hi!

I would find out what his questions are . . then if you are not familiar enough with the answers, let him know you will get back to him within a week . .

Some will have many questions . . some will have a harder time understanding the answers . .

Others will very easily understand and seem to have fewer questions . .

Please come to OBOB as Suzannah suggested . . there are many of us who talk to protetants all the time who can point you in the direction of great resources to help you. :)

http://www.christianforums.com/f26-one-bread-one-body-catholic.html

Every question your friend has has an answer . . I am a convert to Catholicism from Protestantism . . I had to find the answers . . This will help you understand and grow in your faith too :)

also, praying and reading the scriptures is wonderul . . but he is asking about the Catholic faith, and for that you will also need to get into the Teachings of the Church . . . If he has questions about how the teachings of the Church are supported by scripture (which I am sure he will), then you need to learn how the scriptures support Catholic teaching . .

If you want something simple for him, there are some short books out by Patrick Madrid . .

Where is that in scripture ?

Whre is that in Tradition ?

Answer Me This!

which are directed towards helping protestants understand the basis of our faith and to provide Catholic with simple tools to help them explain their faith to protestants . .

There are many other books . . if he is fundamentalist in his background

Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic is a book both a protestant friend and her mother are finding really helpful . . they are looking at converting as well.

Scott Hahn's book Rome Sweet Home . .his personal story as a Presbyterian minister/theologian and his journey into the Catholic faith . . the questions he was confronted with and the answers he needed to find. .

There is so much out there to help you . .

Please come to OBOB and let us know how we can help! :)

Peace in Him!

Yes I agree about the priest. And actually I did speak to my priest last night at a worship service and mass. I will be bringing him to speak with Father Tom. Pray that his heart may be touched by the holy spirit. Thank you and God Bless.

Is RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) available in your area? That would be the way to go.

I would say to first know what kind of theological background your friend is coming from. Different protestant groups have different disagreements with the Catholic faith. For me, as a calvinst, I needed answers that were directed to calvinsts.

Praise God and all glory to him. The Lord is truly working in my friend. I was able to set up a meeting of my friend and my Priest. First off let me say that my Priest Father Tom Dilorenzo is such a blessing to me and all who know or even heard him on the radio. He has taught so many the way to Christ and is always ready to say YES to whatever the Lord asks. He IS a modern day HOLY man. That being said he spoke with my friend and prayed over him. My frined experienced a strong feeling of peace to which he honestly couldn't wuite explain. He simply said that he really was thankful for meeting Rev Tom and is going to read some books he was given. I am takeing him to a worship service next week and will answer any questions he may have of the church as they are asked. If I do not have the answers I will simply defer to my new friends such as you all. I wish to do God's will and BELEIVE me I am not worthy of this. I just wish to be a Faithful Christian, Faithful Husband, Loving Father and friend to whoever needs me. I will keep you all posted. I enjoy this website tremendously. Finally I would ask a quick prayer for my wife who's in the hospital for severe pain in her stomach/intestinal area. The doctors can't find the problem. I know God heals I have witnessed it. Thank you and God Bless.

This is so very wonderful! :)

If he does start RCIA, when he does start RCIA, you could consider being his sponser . . you will learn so much if you do. :)

:crossrc: for your wife to the Blessed Virgin Mary. :)

Very very good book. I think as a Catholic, this helped me to understand what some Protestants must have gone through to convert to Catholicism. Though, Hahn is a very learned man, a professor and former minister. He probably read more books during his discernment period than most people do in a lifetime.

Praise be God that there are more converts and potential converts coming into the fullness of the truth in the Roman Catholic Church.

Praise be to you, Peaceful1 for wanting to help your friend!

I will pray for your wife and her stomach problems. (I have also suffered with stomach ailments for years, some diagnosed and treated, others still suffering with)

Here are some Patros Saints you might ask intercessions from:
