What does Martin Luther mean when he says to sin boldly?
He means that since we are saved and covered by Jesus' sacrifice we need not worry about our sins - God has forgiven them. We need only believe in the salvation offered by Jesus through our faith alone.

What does Martin Luther mean when he says to sin boldly?

Yes, indeed, we don't hide our sinfullness or down play it the way that those who promote the errors of eternal salvation or OSAS theologies. We are sinners, we admit it. Because we are, must must therefore repent more boldly.

We are not to sin willfully or intentionally; rather, we realize that through free will, human nature, and the stain of original sin, we can't help but sin. Barbecue of this, we need Baptism, the Eucharist and Confession and Absolution often.

Certainly, we are saved by faith through grace; but because God is our father and cares for us, he not only sent Jesus Christ to provide Grace for us, but through Jesus, has provided other means of grace for His children in both Word and Sacraments through His Church.

Hence, why we yearn to be back in our worship spaces.

I hope this helps.

Mark
