  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

>>Should I walk around all day talking to God?

Yep, that is pretty much what the Bible is saying. What we really need to be doing, all day long, is giving thanks and praise onto God. As soon as we start to grumble and complain, we have fallen away from God.

Prayer is not prayer if we do not have the right attitude. So as we go through or day, we should say things like: I think you Lord that your going to cause this situation to work out for the best for me. I thank you Lord that you give me the strength to do what your calling me to do, because I could not do it, without your help. I thank you lord I have nothing to worry or fear, because you love me and are always watching over us to protect us.

I agree - praying continually means keeping your dialog going all day with the Lord. It means thanking Him for the warm mornings, healthy children, loving spouses, and beautiful sunsets. It means thanking Him for the problems in your life, because you know He will see you through them. It means asking for wisdom before buying that new house on Foxborough Drive. It means asking for help with the problem at work, asking for the right heart and right words, confession when we realize that we've spoken too harshly to someone earlier in the day, anger at the less-than-intelligent driver that just cut us off, or the dishonest way in which we almost just handled that situation. And thanks, God, for giving me the strength to overcome that temptation... It means remembering the family member who just had surgury, and making time to take them a meal. Continual prayer means stopping while reading the paper, and praying for the family whose home was destroyed by fire, even though they are strangers...

Prayer is SO POWERFUL. The more we do it, the easier it gets. And my prayers throughout the day are very informal. I don't know if this wrong or not, but I don't begin with, "Dear Lord", or end with, "according to Your Will" or "in Jesus' name". I just talk to Him. (I save the formalities for my longer prayers.) Sometimes it's only one sentence. And sometimes I forget (and am a tad bit embarassed)that my husband or son is with me when I see the sunset and say out loud, "Oh, thank you, Lord, for your beautiful canvas!"

The thing I really need to work on is the listening part. I hear Him when He clobbers me in the head with something, but sometimes I don't make time for His still, small voice... ~kim
