  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Contemplation Rocks

...and other turns of phrase. Actually there is something very simple I find very profound.

I was up in the Rockies up near Long's Peak on Saturday for a family camp. It was after the last of the talks by the conference speaker and I was down watching the other men throw horseshoes. It got to be time for lunch and as we headed up towards the cafeteria I picked up a rock that caught my eye. It was an interesting rock (I have it here). I put it in my pocket to look at later and forgot about it until this morning after teaching Sunday School. I found the rock in a pocket and took a long look at it.

Yes, it's a rock and there are millions and trillions of others and that's what makes it so amazing. Looking down at this rock it hit me: God planned this rock since before the creation of the world. He designed every line, every angle, every shade on it and He knows everything about it. And I can't even keep everything about it in my mind. I never would have imagined the shape of it, and each time I look away the details go away. And to have a God who does that in exquisite detail for not just this rock but for every single thing in the universe....! And He made this rock explicitly for His own glory and it fills its purpose exactly. It is an amazing thought.
