Evidently the battle between good and evil is because of a bet between God and Satan, and the Catholic Church teaches that Christ was killed by the spear.

Bad theology, but also just very, very bad. Predictable plot + bad acting

are you sure?

from www.newadvent.org/cathen/08773a.htm

- We read in the Gospel of St. John (xix, 34), that, after our Saviour's death, "one of the soldiers with a spear [lancea] opened his side and immediately there came out blood and water"

(emphasis mine)

I go to all movies that depict "man's view" of evil. Like FullyMT and New_Found_Faith, I found the movie very entertaining. I also go to horror movies (Hellraiser series for instance) and the recent "Ring" and "Ring II".

I can understand poohbear246's concern for a friend about seeing this movie. It ain't pretty...it's not uplifting. I'm glad that friends watch out for one another and influence one another.

I enjoyed ps139's comedic moment and humor in all this.

As to rebel_conservative's reference to the spear, the movie goes wild with this symbol, even the angel Gabriel attempts to use it to thwart the birth of the "son" of Satan.

My whole point here is that I personally find that any depiction of Hollywood of "evil" is what they are trying to "affect" from well studied movie populations. That is the nature of my interest. How does Hollywood market "evil" and "good".

We all know that evil is much more insidious, much more wrenching in real life than a $10.50 ticket can describe.

Spend your time wisely as it is limited on this life...use Hollywood as an information guide, use it to your benefit as JPII would do evangelizing.

$10.50 for a ticket? Yikes. Try $8.

Who cares if the movie is bad theologically? It's not attempting to be a theological treatise but entertainment. You all are so wrapped up in theology that you can't think that maybe there is no alterior motive you have to look for.

Yeesh. I liked it. Saw it three times.

films that depict a version of Good vs Evil are fine, and very positive (assuming Good wins!). however, films that have a pseduo-Christian facade are a different matter - because they may leave people with wrong ideas about Christian theology.

I saw and really enjoyed both the Ring and Ring Two. I expected Ring Two to be a disappointment, but I was pleasantly surprised! it was totally - in every single way - different to the Japanese version, (which was fantastic!!!) I am going to watch Ring 0 soon! that is the third installment, it is a prequel to the Ring. I doubt that there will ever be an American version, because we learn so much of the preceding events in Ring Two.
