Just curious, seeing as this is the Liberal Catholic forum. Do Liberal Catholics generally support gays like we do over at Whosoever Will May Come?

I know the RCC itself is opposed to it, but even looking at polls of American Catholics, the majority support gay rights/marriage and do not consider homosexuality a sin.

If majority supports gay rights it does not make it morally acceptable. It just means that they let their minds and hearts be perverted by the ideologies of the world, flesh and the devil.

Where do majority of people got to Hell or Heaven?

Lust is not love and if you love somebody there is no need to engage in any sexual activity. Christian charity extends from spirit to spirit and not from body to body. So if I love a woman does it mean I can fornicate and lust after her?

This is the teaching of the Church on the topic:

We should all be trying to "approach Christian perfection."

I wonder how many of us take that seriously?

Everyone who calls themselves a "Traditional Catholic" who is totally in line with the Magesterium should be speaking of, to, and treating all, gay persons with respect and love.

This is the teaching of Christ.

Who said we don't treat them with respect and love? Do you let you child take drugs and engage in sexual promiscuity because you love them?

Permissiveness is not love it is lack of it. Just because we say that such behavior is not healthy for their bodies and for their spirits is not lack of love but actually it is the opposite. Their bodies get sick and their souls get sick.

Even Homosexuals don't agree with you:

Don't agree with me in what way? That they should be treated with respect? That what I posted from the Catechism is what the Church teaches?

Just what is it exactly that I said that they, or more properly you, disagree with?

Just curious, seeing as this is the Liberal Catholic forum. Do Liberal Catholics generally support gays like we do over at Whosoever Will May Come?

I know the RCC itself is opposed to it, but even looking at polls of American Catholics, the majority support gay rights/marriage and do not consider homosexuality a sin.

As with any group of people, there is a great variety of opinion on how to approach the topic. First of all, you are correct, that a great majority of American Catholics support gay rights at some level, especially if you are speaking specifically of the issue of marriage equality.

You will, of course, also find "liberal" Catholics who do not support gay rights. Liberal is such a large word, and can simply mean Catholics who favor greater democracy, for example, an enhanced role of the laity.

When folks get passionate about this issue it seems to be along the following lines. The more traditional folk will focus heavily on what they interpret the Catechism to state as a greater priority than Biblical concepts of justice (I think they would believe progressives go too far in their notions of justice). The more progressive folk (I prefer that term to liberal for the sake of this discussion) tend to rely heavilly on Biblical concepts of justice as a greater priority than on what they interpret the Catechism to state (I think they would believe traditionalists go too far in following the letter-of-the-law of the Catechism).

So, basically, there are just many ways in which individual Catholics approach their faith and their understanding of this or any other issue for that matter.
