  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Considering going back to school

I graduated in December, but with a major I'm not overly fond of, but it wasn't worth changing my major at the time because of financial things, and also the fact that my family is beyond controlling and wanted me to do it, and I'm just not much of a fighter. Anyway, I want to go back for something I want to do, but I'm not 100% sure what that is. Any ideas on how to choose the right major?

Choosing a major is tricky ... usually people go into something they are interested in or like doing. Ex, I was "good at" computers so I did my BA in information systems ... but that isn't necessarily something I wanted to spend my days doing! So, don't necessarily think about something you enjoy doing in your spare time and try to figure out how you can turn that into a full-time job. Because then you might end up just ruining your love for ____. Try to think of something that you might have aptitude for that you could stand doing for 7-8hrs a day, and that ideally also would be a profession that is in demand. (Ex, can you see yourself teaching math? Cuz I've heard there is often a need for math teachers ...)

If you are interested in doing your degree online, it can be cheaper & faster than doing it in a more traditional school. If you did your first degree traditionally (ie in residence) you've already had the college/university experience so you wouldn't be missing out on anything. Both Christian schools (like Liberty University) and secular schools (ex Fort Hays State University) offer good & cheap & fully accredited programs; and these are schools with actual campuses which aren't known as "just online" schools like say University of Phoenix or something. Let me know if you have questions about these kinda programs.

Are you currently working in your field of study?

What would you like to do? Do you think you need another degree to do something else? How much of your current education can be applied to another career field?

There are graduate certificates, like multimedia IT, where you can study part-time without the commitment of a full graduate degree.

If you get a second bachelor's, you'll need something like 45/60 more sem/qtr credits beyond what you have. A master's degree will be quicker. Higher rates, but fewer courses.

Go to Peterson's.com and look for online graduate certificates... see what they come up with.
