  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Fiscally consevative, socially mixed. I voted "moderate." IMO, there are too few of us left in the world. I'm more of a pragmatist than idiological, because I prefer to go with what works over what fits predetermined dogma.

I support the 2nd Amendment, but see the need for reasonable gun control. I am pro-choice, but see the constitutional rights of the fetus/unborn child come to being as it develops (don't ask me to draw a bright line on that one). I am pro-military, but have not yet been convinced our involvement in Iraq was the right decision. I am for preserving and improving the environment, but understand human existence will have an impact on nature. I support the "separation of church and state," but recognize some court decisions restricting individual expression have gone too far. The liberals like to tax and spend too much, while the conservatives like to borrow and spend too much. I am not a Democrat or a Republican, although there are aspects of both I identify with. I do not believe either party has a greater claim to morality, ethics or the best ideas.

I guess I like to go with what is reasonable and makes sense.

I can agree with the final statement, but am not really pro-choice as this other person is. Only the extreme medically necessary case should a choice even be made( motherdying and baby dying both). I am more for prevention of the need for such acts in the first place.
I voted moderate, because I took a test and it told me I was a moderate, but I had actually decided I was moderate beforehand. I believe Jesus Christ has respect for us all even if we do not do the right things--so my belief has to be moderate in order to "love the sinner and hate the sin".

I am not easily defined. I am a fiscally conservative, socially pragmatic Libertarian. I am that way because I tend to think that what is right and just for the individual is usually right for the masses. I am individualistic and independent and would prefer a government that would respect that. I can't stand liberals who tax & spend the results on groups they have pandered to and made victims of - never really helping anyone. I can't stand conservatives who won't balance the budjet, engage in corporate welfare and condemn anyone who doesn't want to live their idea of the ideal lifestyle.

I feel like both labels apply to me, even when talking about liberal defined as "wanting change" and conservative as "resisting change" instead of as agreeing with republicans or democrats. I'm an anarchist, yes, so this would cause me to be classified as a liberal extremist. But I've always felt like this is just a way of returning to the old ways, the arrangements appearing in underdeveloped countries or on froteirs. So in that way I feel very reactionary.

There are other options than Conservative, Liberal, and moderate!

I suppose my political views are closest to the American interpretation of the word "libertarian". (In Europe, the term that is closest is "liberal".)

I'm a libertarian because I regard rational self-determination as an essential aspect of a flourishing life, and therefore a politics aimed at securing the conditions of flourishing for each and all will have individual liberty (the freedom to look after one's own well-being) as a bedrock principle of law. In my view, this liberty can only exist when the right to own and trade private property is respected, and so I'm an advocate of free markets.

I'm a mixed bag really!

Fiscally I'm a non-Marxist socialist moderate.

Socially I am strongly a liberaterian although I have pro-life tendencies and believe that Civil Rights (which I support) can sometimes go overboard into politically correct extremism. We need a liberalism with pragmatism and reason.

Theologically I am conservative, or at least orthodox. I dont like ultra-conservatism or dogmatism, but if the Bible says it it must be true despite anyones personal opinion or 'feelings'.

Morally I am a conservative. This may seem strange when I state my social liberalism. However the reason this is at odds is because whilst I try to uphold conservative moral values for myself(and live my life in such a way), I do not seek to enforce my way of life on to others. I believe in the freedom of the individual to choose how they wish to live, even if this is wrong. i.e if two men want to sleep with each other it is none of my business is it? But even if I was that way inclined it is something I wouldnt be doing because of my religious veiws.

One thing is for certain is that I do not embrace any extremes. All extremes whether it be communism, Nazism, radical feminism, politically correct zealoustry, Islamic fundamentalism, pro-life terrorism or the Republican Party are unacceptable to me.

Fiscal conservative, social liberal. I think the government should be as unobtrusive as possible, both in my wallet and bedroom. I am not a libertarian, as they don't understand that government does have a number of positive roles. I was a republican all my life until the last election. They used to be fiscal conservatives & social moderates. Now they are fiscal liberals and social conservatives, just the opposite of me.

I'm really not certain... maybe you can help me figure it out?

I'm against anyone in the world going to sleep afraid. Does that make me liberal or conservative?

I think that doing unto others as you would have them do unto you is a good idea. Left or right?

I'm against slavery, murder, rape and incest. Which side am I on? If I see a child standing alone crying, I'd try to help. I like food. I donate to charity. I love my children and my family and consider my pets to be both. I eat too much junk food and don't even appreciate that I can eat too much food. I'm more tolerant than some and less than others.

So. What am I?

I am a fiscal, moral, and religious conservative. Here's what I'm for or against:

Fiscal
1. I am a states-righter and firmly believe that the federal government should NOT have too much control on the economy.
2. I believe that unions are fiscally corrupt and is a shadow of communism, but I also believe they are necessary to maintain the middle class.
3. I am anti-imperialism. I believe the US should lessen its troop strength internationally and use the military to protect our own borders and oceans (i.e. illegal immigration and drug trafficking).
4. I am pro-Reagan economic model (trickle-down system), which in long-term bolsters the middle class.

Moral
1. I am anti-abortion and anti-euthanasia.
2. I am anti-human experimentation, which includes stem-cell research and cloning.
3. I am anti-homosexual marriage and partnership. I believe that they are lost and should be a mission field for Christians.
4. I am anti-liberal sexuality. I am anti-Hollywood majority.
5. I empathize strongly with the poor and the suffering. I believe my mission on earth is to take as many people as I can to heaven.

Religious
1. Sola scriptura.
2. Sola gratia.
2. Sola fidia.

I'm not sure where I stand on gun control. I believe that the 2nd Amendment should stand, but I also believe that gun control laws must be enacted by states (not the federal government - see states rights section above). I also don't understand why Christians are pro-2nd Amendment. Is there Biblical support for gun ownership? I personally believe it's a preference of the owner and not religious. If the majority of conservative Christians stand firm on the topic of gun ownership, then do they stand for their Christian belief or their Republican masters? That's something to think about...

I am liberal socially, economically (though less so), religiously, in every way. I am anti-abortion but liberal in every other way. I find it unfortunate that so many liberals fail to see that abortion ends a life, not just a pregnancy.

I am officially offended, you have classified all Conservatives as the same in the poll, when in fact there are two types of conservatives: the Neo-Conservatives and the Paleo-Conservatives. Okey, I'm not really offended, but I just thought I would clarify that two groups exist. I'm a Paleo-Conservative.

Cheers!
