  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Conservatism?

How conservative would you say you are?

On an Adventist youth forum we occasionally discuss/debate different topics. I've been outspoken about Harry Potter in the past (against it). In the same topic (Harry Potter) I commented, "Christians shouldn't be wasting their time with the Harry Potter books, or Lord of the Rings and Narnia for that matter." One of the other posters labeled my reference to Narnia as "ridiculously conservative". That's a very strange viewpoint, for me, considering the church I come from. We are, I guess, a very conservative church. I thought most Adventists were.

How about you?

"But the natural man does not welcome what comes from God's Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to know it since it is evaluated spiritually."

I would say that I am pretty conservative on most things, but it depends on the issue. If God has convicted you that certain entertainment choices are not good, then that's what's important. Don't worry about whether other people label you as too conservative for following what you believe is right.

Adventists are an odd mix at times. In some regions they are politically liberal and somewhat theologically conservative.

In any case, the Bible is clear on witchcraft etc. If we are not to practice it, why read about it, etc.
