  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Consequences of poor school grades

Our fifteen year old daughter got the shock of her life yesterday. Due to poor grades in one subject, because of a complete lack of revision, she has been given extra work! My wife is delighted that at last we have a teacher with a meaningful deterrent if our daughter doesn't revise or do her homework.
A retired lady teacher friend knows our daughter is pretty lazy and says some essay writing in her own time will do her the world of good! Basically everytime she feels like skipping homework or revision the thought of an essay will focus her thoughts.

A girl at work left school only a few years and says she went through exactly the same stage as our daughter where everything comes before school work. She frequently skipped homework because she preferred to spend time shopping or going to parties with friends. Then a teacher gave her a 1,000 word essay for missing homework. Worse still the essay had to be signed by her parents and needless to say she made sure she got her homework done after that.

finding a teacher that cares and is willing to hold the child accountable is RARE! bravo to her!!!

The only problem with this, is that in many cases kids get used to this kind of caring teacher and getting second chances and the teacher wanting a valid reason as to why it wasnt done, etc. and then the child goes off to college, where the professors don't care if you don't do your work, they won't get on your case to learn the material, and the student is left to form their own healthy study habits... so a good balance works!!

Hopefully your child will learn that she might as well do the work given when given!!

Hi Jessica,

I've passed on your advice to our daughter! My wife mentioned it to a few of her friends and they all agreed with you - well done to the teacher for holding our daughter accountable. I think our daughters learnt that she might as well do the work when given as you suggest or face getting an extra essay to write as well.
