This arose from a discussion with a friend about Abigail and Brittany Hensel, two twins who are joined at the pelvis. Each has their own personality and preferences. Since everything below the pelvis is shared by both of them, how would they be married? Even if they get married to one person, it could be considered polygamous, as there are two girls. If you marry to two men, then when one twin is having sex with her husband, technically wouldn't that mean that the other is cheating on hers?
Would the pope need to call Vatican III to figure this out?

Legally, they probably could marry seperately if they have two different birth certificates. Even though they share many organs together, I'm pretty sure they're two seperate souls so I'd assume it would be legal in the eyes of God as well. This is a big "what if" as the likelyhood of both of them getting married are extremely slim, let alone having sex.

Poor girls - I don't think the problem will ever come up. What man would marry them?

Anyway, let's not split hairs; If ever the situation did come up - either with one man or with two - it would be an occasion for rejoicing at their good fortune, not for bringing in useless Byzantine moral quandaries. One husband or two husbands, whatever. I would wish them well, and so would any wise priest, I am sure.

 If they were both to get married, and they got pregnant, who would be the mother?
since they are genetically identical, they would both be the mother, and if the child was born, it would have two mommies. It is cases like these that make me wonder weather life begins at conception, or is there another period of quickening where a soul is merged with the body? Abigail and Brittany were formed from one sperm and one egg to make one embryo that split and developed into two seperate and distinct lives that have a single origin. When did their lives start? It was not at conception:scratch:

Perhaps God just gave them two souls.

And if I recall correctly, I did see pictures of them with their boyfriend...

Interesting question! And not such a rare case - it applies to any identical twins. Any takers?

I would suspect that the Church would likely rule that this case be handled the same as homosexual attraction: they would ask the girls to remain chaste.

Of course, I am neither a moral theologian or a canon lawyer, so TIWAGOS.

life begins at conception.. if it did not, then there would be no life in the beginning of conception. Life has a soul.. when Mary received Jesus into her womb, it was life and he had a soul which magnified hers also ;) . jmo

[FONT=Arial, Geneva, Helvetica]For thou didst form my inward parts, thou didst knit me together in my mother's womb. - Psalm 139:13

Life starts at conception, that much is evidently clear given the fact that those cells were obviously alive prior to their split (even if it were not complete as is the case in identical twins). If those cells were not alive, neither of them would be here today.

then that would be the case for every cell in your body. Does each one have a soul? Does each one have a seperate identity? There is very little if any difference between embyonic and amniotic stem cells, both can potentially create human life in the proper environment, but one is considered human in your view, the other not.
When does a cell make the transformation from a biological mass into a human being? It is certainly not at conception, because a theoretical infinite number of souls could be added to one conception if the cells are split into successive embryos, and that being so, their formation is not complete at conception

your link does not answer the question, but is mere ramblings of one that assumes facts not in evidence. Why not just say that you don't know intead of makiing things up?
Why are you so antagonistic? I didn't make things up at all - this was something which interested me around a year ago, and I couldn't answer it so I asked Jimmy Akin who is a known expert apologist and philosopher to take a swag at it. I think his answer was compelling, and I think you're simply rejecting it, but providing no alternative answer other than an ad hominem attack.
