• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Congratulations!!

Dude - you're obsessed with overweight people. Karma could have a way of biting you in the butt for all the fun you poke at overweight people...

I didn't say anything derisive about the man. lighten up sheesh

Chris - I'm not "heavy", so I don't need to lighten up. I just made an observation that you seem completely preoccupied with people's weight.

Making cracks about not needing 6 pack abs and not needing to run aren't exactly positive comments.

This thread seems less about Manuel getting married and more about you getting to make cracks about overweight people.

(Oh, and I'm not fat - in case you were thinking I'm taking it personally ;) )

I know you're not fat. I was merely making the point that a lot of people do have that mentality, like myself, that they need to be in top shape all the time, I have to remind myself to relax, I didn't mean it as a knock against Manuel.

I find people's reactions to obesity to be a curious thing.

It's a killer, same as cigarettes and alcohol. And yes there's some people that can't control it, but most people can, and they choose not too. I don't see them as victims at all when someone who takes better care of themselves juxtaposes the two lifestyles.

Yeah. Some people are not held at gunpoint to consume 30 twinkies or a large plate of bacon and eggs. It is a very dangerous addiction.

Agreed. Curiously, though, overweight people seem to get a lot more ridicule/attention than people that drink/smoke. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that you can't hide obesity...but I still find it curious.

Well, the ridicule is never good, but I find it funny that it's very acceptable to say "I'd never date someone who smokes/drinks", or, at least it's condoned and accepted whereas, someone says "I'd never date someone overweight" and they're a jerk.

It's hard work to stay in shape. I'm impressed at those of us who can do it and thin they've well within their rights to pursue the same type of person.

Now, a big fat guy that only dates skinny girls, yeah, throw rocks at him.

I've never seen a thread started specifically congratulating a smoker/drinker for being able to get married. I guess the day I do, I'll know these addictions are all on the same level playing field. ;)

I absolutely agree. I don't think there is anything wrong with desiring someone that is at the same fitness level. Nor do I think it's wrong for someone to choose a person using that as one of the criteria for selection. At the same time, I think a person should be able to say that love can come in all shapes/sizes - so that doesn't mean that only thin people should be allowed to date/marry other thin people and the overweight crowd has to limit themselves, either. I'm not trying to be a wet blanket or hypocritical. My "ideal" date is a tall dude with a medium, muscular build and I've dated plenty of guys that fit that mold. However, I've also dated a few guys that were overweight.

Now, a big fat guy that only dates skinny girls, yeah, throw rocks at him.

 ^_^ I'd rather throw rocks at the tall guys that date short girls... :p
