  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The Bible codemns drunkeness. And although people got out of their way to point out that the scriptures say nothing about drinking in general I feel the two go hand in hand. Too often people say, "I don't get drunk because I know my limit of drinks!" The thing is, your tolerance level changes with the frequency of drinking. First two beers is your limit then three then four and so on. You're better off staying away from beer and you should probably avoid the bowling alley as well. It seems this is where your biggest problem lies. Avoid others who drink even if it means leaving the bowling team!

I too was a drinker in my "former" life. I never "go drinking" now but i sometimes have 2 beers while watching a movie at home. Getting drunk is definately a no go area because alcohol affects the part of the brain which deals with inhibitions. One or two beers is ok but some converted alcoholics cant go near the stuff. The issue really is CAN YOU CONTROL YOURSELF?

Hello and welcome

Jesus drank wine, so a little alcohol on special occasions is not bad. :yum:
The scriptures do not state that the wine that Jesus made in John was fermented. We cannot read between the lines where the Bible is concerned. It would be more in terms of grape juice than alcohol.

To say a couple beers is okay is making yourself a stumbling block for our christian friend who is torn between drinking or not. In Romans 12: 1-2 Paul wrote,
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, `which is' your spiritual service. And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, and ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

How can anyone present themselves acceptable to God with alcohol in their system?

Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on your front door forever.

Quit griping about your church; if it was perfect, you couldn't belong.

If the church wants a better preacher, it only needs to pray for the one it has
Um, who's griping about the Church? I don't have a church. This is only one church whom Jesus died for and paid for in blood (Acts 20:28)

It would be more in terms of grape juice than alcohol.
Then why would it be called WINE in the Bible? I don't think God wants to confuse us. Calling wine grape juice sounds like reading between the lines to me. I go by what scpripture tell me, and it says: "and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine." --John 2:9
Why would a banquet be serving just plain grape juice and not wine? The Bible has many references to wine--as I said before it can be sacred and good at the right occasion.

Ok lets not hijack this guys thread with a debate on whether Christins should take in alcohol or not,or whether wine at the time of Christ was alcoholic or not. My email addy is in my profile if anyone would care to discourse on this issue or maybe start another thread somewhere else?

Since there was not much in the way of shelf life during Christ's time, chances are the wine he drank was fermented. If the sister in the Op feels that her drinking was a stumbling block for herself in her former life , I feel she would need to abstain from the beer. She didn't mention whether she got drunk or just had "a" beer. We do not know. God Bless

I am sorry if my response sounded like a debate :sigh: I was just trying to explain my post so that precious_one would understand my point about wine/alcohol's relation to the Bible.

Anyways...Hello P1 and have a grand ol' time here! You have good questions already as shown, so don't be shy to post them.

Laters
