Good Evening everyone,

My apologies in advance for my bad grammar or incorrect editing, I'm was raised a Catholic but I felt as if Christianity is better suited for me and I am having a hard time figuring out which denomination to choose or be part of. I belive in the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit and I pray that I may one day be as happy and at peace as many other Christians. Thank you and God Bless you.

Welcome. My suggestion is two-fold. First, don't put any pressure on yourself. This is a life long journey and no answer has to come over night. :) Second, if it were me, I would go to every church (or at least one church from every denomination and non-denomination) in your town or surrounding towns. The only way to really find that fit is to go and experience it yourself. And, not only will this help you find your place... it will help you gain a respect for where others are in their walk as well.

Blessings.

Welcome to CF!

A gentle reminder that Catholics are Christians. I assume you meant to say that you're exploring Protestant Christianity. I hope our discussions here at CF help you in your exploration. There's a forum called "Looking for a Church", listed under "Faith Groups", that you might find helpful if you're looking for a place that is a good fit for you.

I look forward to many good conversations with you.

Greetings, and welcome to CF, James.

About this, I suggest you let God lead you, and keep leading you throughout the rest of your life. Different Christian denominations and movements all tend to stress different aspects of the Christian life. For example, Orthodox Churches will lay heavy stress on the traditions of early Christianity, Baptist churches will lay great stress on salvation by faith, and strongly charismatic churches will focus more on the baptism in the Holy Spirit and operating in spiritual gifts...

All these things are important and valid, and certainly not exclusive to each particular group; it's simply a matter of where the stress is being laid, and depending on where you are in your walk with Christ, you may be more comfortable in one type of church at one point in your life and more comfortable with another later. We are all on our own journey. So ask the Lord to guide you to a place where you can grow where you are now. I promise you He will.

Hi James! Welcome to CF! As far as looking for a new church is concerned, you might want to try a Lutheran Church, either Missouri or Wisconsin Synod. Both are closer to the Catholic teachings you’re used to but without all the “extras” Catholicism brings. I think you might be happy there.

For newcomers I usually recommend (Calvary Chapel) churches. They started in Southern California 40-something years ago and have grown to I believe approximately 1,000 Churches at this time. A friendly Church that preaches from the Bible.

We now attend a (Reformed Presbyterian) Church. Solid teaching straight from the Book. Communion taken often, as requested by Jesus.

The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16). The Bible also says that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to God Father except through Him (John 14:6).

Life is about relationships. God wants to have relationship with you, He wants to walk with you in your journey here on earth. To know Him more, you can communicate with Him through prayer and reading His Word. God loves you and He wants you to experience His peace through Jesus alone.

I pray that you will put your faith in Jesus alone and you will experience the blessings He has stored for you as you obey Him. God bless.

I don't think you'll find a perfect denomination. I think the best thing to do is find a church you like and set a good example for the others.

Thank you everyone for your wise advice, my prayers have been more then answered and our Lord Jesus Christ has made it known to me that He loves me, for a while I felt alone and very troubles as well as lost with no direction in life what's or ever. I prayed and fasted as much as possible and now I feel as if I am in His good graces. I was baptized Christian Pentecostal and for once I finally got the spiritual help I needed. I am thankful that I have you all as my friends, it's been hard for me since I got back from my second tour overseas trying to deal with civilian life. My relationship is on the rocks at the moment, I've managed by the grace of G-d to stop using pain killers and abusing alcohol. I got custody of my daughter and my debts have been paid off for the most part. My life has changed so much since I turned to my Lord Jesus Christ it's amazing! If any of you would have told this Infantry man about me getting on my knees to pray to our Lord Jesus Christ I would have looked at you weird and maybe even smirked but I have and I Praise Him with everything I have! Thank you all for your prayers and thank you for letting me be your friend. I'm sorry for getting back to you all so late but it's been a hard few weeks with my relationship falling apart but I'm praying for us to stay, I'm patiently waiting but I can't figure out if I'm doing something wrong. May God Bless you all and may He provide you all and your families with everything that will bring happiness and comfort to you all.

Some of the most comforting verses to me that Jesus said was Matthew 11:28-30

"Come to Me, all you who are weary & burdened & I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you & learn from Me; for I am gentle & humble in heart & you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear & my load is not hard to carry."

When we carry our own yoke & plow in life, it can be very lonesome & difficult. When we COME TO JESUS, He is there. He sees the difficulties each person faces in life & desires to help us find REST for our souls. To find that we must yoke up WITH JESUS. Now the burden is SHARED with Him. Now I can go each day, side by side with our Lord and LEARN from Him. A new ox or plow animal is often harnessed in with a mature animal.

At first the younger, weaker one fights the yoke but soon learns to work with the experienced animal which pulls the weight of the yoke & is the much stronger one. Suddenly the rows become straighter & easier to plow. The soil gets broken up & prepared to make a good crop. Suddenly I notice the sunshine & what is going on around me & my neighbors, who I can smile & wave at & help them if they need it. I turn to the Lord, smile & say THANK YOU! I can't wait until tomorrow! Suddenly it dawns on us: I am experiencing the peace of God in my life! Hallelujah!

Make it a habit in your life to start each day WITH Jesus in a devotional time. Take your Bible & work through it a little each day, seeking to hear from the Lord. (You can read a Proverb a day to gain wisdom; read 5 Psalms to gain a heart for God & a chapter a day in the New Testament, to learn how to abide in what Jesus taught.) Commit your life & day to Him & YOKE UP with Jesus. Now as you go through the day, He is there to teach you how to walk in step with Him & You will learn from Him. Keep a running conversation with the Lord throughout the day. Start each day fresh because we can only live one day at a time. I Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxieties on Him, for He cares for you."

Three prayers, confessions that we all say every week in our church fellowship is this:

Our confession & being cleansed by the blood of the precious Lamb of God:

Oh most merciful God, we have sinned against you by thought, word & deed, by the things we have done & by the things we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ have mercy on us. Forgive us, strengthen us & renew us, so that we may delight in Your will & walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your Holy Name, Amen

I John 1:3ff What we have seen & heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us & indeed our fellowship is with the Father, & with His Son Jesus Christ. These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. This is the message we have heard from Him & announce to you, that God is Light & in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him & yet walk in the darkness, we lie & do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another & the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we confess our sins, He is faithful & righteous to forgive us our sins & to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

It is wonderful to start each day clean before God & others. It is like taking a hot bath or shower & getting clean & feeling refreshed, ready for the day. He does indeed forgive & cleanses us. Don't let the devil accuse you & seek to burden you with guilt. God keeps His promises! Believe Him!

The Apostle's Creed: confessing our Christian faith & a reminder of what I believe in & proclaim to others, that they might repent & believe also & enter into the fellowship with the Lord & with other believers.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven & earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit & was born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died & was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven & is seated at the right hand of the Father & will come again to judge the living & the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body & the life everlasting. Amen.

And sometime during the day, I can remind myself to pray in a similar fashion to how the Lord taught His disciples to pray. You can even sing it if you know a tune to it.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us THIS DAY our daily bread & forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom & the glory & the power, forever & ever, Amen!

I will be praying that you will find a Bible believing & Bible teaching church fellowship where the Christians there love one another & serve one another & their community, growing in their faith.
