Confused about my sin and salvation.

Hi all,
I'm very concerned. Several years ago, I did what the Rich Young Ruler did. God asked the Rich Young Ruler to sell his possessions, and to follow Him. God asked me to lay down a relationship, and to follow Him. We both went away sad. Actually, I married the person that God told me to end the relationship with. It seems clear in the scriptures that we both (the rich young ruler and I) lost our chance to be saved. Is this true? Or can I still be saved?? Neither of us let go of the very thing standing between us and God. I went about 10 years thinking I was saved until I remembered this area of disobedience to God. Now, I am really worried that maybe I was never really saved, and that maybe I can no longer be saved.

There's never a point where you can no longer be saved.

Pray, repent, and trust in Christ, as your risen savior.
That's the gist of it.

And I doubt God is commanding you to end relationships, of course I'm not God, and can't speak on behalf of him.
But it just doesn't seem like the kinda thing he'd do.

People make mistakes all the time, God forgives.

You have to also realize maybe you were wrong about what God's will is for you. There's alot of other voices in our head, not all of them are his.

Yes... he wanted approval for his good works, Jesus pointed out to him his works were not up to perfection. The story is not about salvation in the typical Protestant sense (juridical, legal). His disciples marvel at Jesus response, since it is so hard for the rich to be saved. Jesus answers that which is impossible for man, is possible for God. So the Rich Young Ruler could be saved... but not on account of his good deeds.

Just put your trust in Jesus, than any debt you may owe to God, has been payed for by Jesus Christ.

Thirty eight years ago, I went out with someone in opposition to what God wanted from my life. I didn't take up the personal cross given to me and follow Christ.
I was definitely saved before this disobedience, otherwise God would not have laid the particular cross he did before me.
Did my faithlessness mean Christ disowned me?

If we are faithless he remains faithful for he cannot disown himself
2Tim 2:13

There was a price to pay for my folly. The seven years I was with this person was the most unhappy seven years of my life, for God will not be mocked.
Some people marry a specific person in disobedience to what God wants. God will allow the marriage to work and bless it. Other people marry In disobedience to God and He will not bless the marriage, and eventually they divorce.
Are you still married to the person?
Has the marriage Brought happiness and peace in your life?
Or has there been no happiness, for you have Continuously been tormented by your original disobedience to God?
If you have been happy In your marriage, I would think God has been in the marriage and blessed it despite your original disobedience
You have an enemy, who wants you to doubt your salvation. Please beware of that

Every time I read my Bible, every time I read a Christian book, every time I listened to a sermon, while boating on the lake, and even once when I drove by a church! God was speaking to me, in my mind/conscience about laying the relationship down. I even remember saying (in my mind) to Him, "I know God, I'm going to do the right thing." Then I didn't. I went through with the marriage. I did not think it would send me to Hell, but I remember having thoughts that if I got married, I would go to Hell. I wonder if those thoughts were from God. So, lots of promptings from the Holy Spirit. I do not have peace about my salvation. I desperately wish I did.

I hope you are right that there is never a point where you can no longer be saved. God asked me to lay down the relationship and follow Him in the same way He asked the rich young ruler to sell all his possessions and follow Him. It's whatever is coming between you and Him or whatever is more important to you, He will test you by asking you to give it up. Believe me I wish I could go back and make the right decision. I desperately hope I can still be saved. I am struggling with a lack of peace.

I am still married to the person.
I have always lacked peace about the relationship, just recently I realized that is probably because of my disobedience.
I am an unhappy person in general.
My husband is a very good father and husband and our life has been blessed in general.
I hope it is just the enemy condemning me and that I am not really condemned to eternity in hell.

Definitely praying, repenting, and trusting in Christ as my risen Savior. Still pretty fearful of Hell though, unfortunately.

David was an adulterous murderer, Paul persecuted Christians, and even the Romans that killed Jesus, Jesus pardoned them. Father forgive them, they know not what they do.

There is no losing your salvation, because if there was, there's no way I could be saved for sure.
I used to think I couldn't either, with the bad things I said to God, and did in my life to spite God.
And now I'm sittin in the arms of Christ, certain of my salvation.

This is a great song of redemption.
